Not really familiar with the 1st gen pumps but it doesn't look like you are running a lot of extra fuel so I think you would be very happy with the 12cm turbo...........only think about a 16cm when the fueling gets well over stock........the 12cm will be efficient to 35 psi

the wastegate really makes a good difference... a properly ported 12cm will offer better overall performance than a non-gated 16

I put a non gated 14 on my dads 96, took a ton of power away unless you are way up in the rev's (over 2700). He has a fueling plate and other mods including the 3gsk. Stick with the 12.

Go with the 12. I currently have a 16 on, and EGT's are no lower than the 12 provided me, and boost is about the same if i back off the boost elbow some on the 12cm. Spoolup is much better with the 12, and i highly reccomend it over the 16 myself.

You'll like the 16, but you'll love the 12. With the stock injectors the 12 cm is a really good match. If your truck is a stick you're going to get the turbo flutter, though. If you have a stick, try to get an HX-35 or WH1C turbo off a '94-'02 truck and just swap turbos.

I agree with wannadiesel. The 16 is OK, but the 12 is MUCH better. If you go with a 12, try to have it ported some and drill the wastegate hole through the divider.

Depends on the amount of fueling.........if the level of fuel your are running doesn't allow for much more than 35 psi peak boost you will be ok without a wastegate.......over 35 psi and a HX35 starts to over speed badly, becomes very inefficient and starts to superheat the air charge to the point where egt's climb very quickly.........if you peak around 35 psi or slightly over you will not benefit from a wastegate...........

Funny, I went from the 18.5 to the 16 and lost 2 psi, but the spool was a bit better.

Wastegated 12's are easier and cheaper to get than non-wastegated ones, there's no reason not to get a wastegated one. Don't pay more than $50 for a used one.

What does drilling the wastegate hole through the divider do for us? Sorry if this sounds stupid, but I wjust installed a new HX35 w/12cm and would like to know!
