12v Injectors

I would like to have some input on 60-80 hp injectors for a '95 12 valve 5spd. I pull a 25' GN Flatbed loaded from 20-30,000lbs regularly. Also, what is the best clutch to harness this power? Thinking of a South Bend 13' upgrade. One last question, What timing for good power, GREAT RELIABILITY, and Good mileage. 15-15.5-16?

Thanks for your help

Re:12v Injectors

You need a TQ plate and turbine housing first. That will give you the power you would like.

Re:12v Injectors

I went with the 370s first and my stock clutch started sliping pretty soon after. I then went with the 13 in Southbend Con OFE after I pulled out a fried Centerforce and I couldnt be happier with it. Im now pushin 550 ponies and the SB is still holding great ;D. I do agree with don about the plate and turbo upgrade, however I LOVED the 370s when I put put them in ;D. I would definately go with the clutch first if you know your gonna be bombing and pulling .
Good luck,
Scott

Re:12v Injectors

I have the 370's in my truck and they seem to be working well. I am very pleased with the power. Like Don M said you will need to get a little more air in their though to really make the 370's work well and get that torque plate. The southbend clutches seem to be the best thing out there. Good luck with your upgrades.

Re:12v Injectors

Turn it up in steps like Don said....Plate, housing, timing clutch, injectors then turbo....just depends on what you want.

I made an 80hp - 140 ft/lbs gain on a 97' 5 speed using the stock plate pushed forward, boost elbow and timing.

Re:12v Injectors

Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't injectors give me more power with less fuel? If I move the plate or get a different one, It will just dump more fuel and not burn it as efficient as a bigger AND better set of injectors? The reason I am leaning towards injectors is that I think i have a bad one. When I rev the engine or accelerate from idle, at 2000-2500 rpm I hear a popping noise a big loss of power. Need to have injectors checked and have it timed.

Re:12v Injectors

signature,

I would do what you said, check the stock ones. If you take it to cummins, ask how much, could be cheeper to just get new performance ones. But, I agree with everyone else, plate, turbo, then injectors.

Re:12v Injectors

i have had two sets of 370 injectors both from PDR. the one set I used the thin washers and the other set the thick ones. the frist set ran very hot and smoked a lot with a lil HP gain over the 300's I had. the second set with the thick washers ran very cool with less smoke and a lil HP gain over the first set. Which washers should I have used? The reason for switching the washers was because I wanted to see what the difference was. I heard the thinner ones were the ones to use but my egts are down 300* with the thicker ones. ???

I can't believe that no one has asked if you have guages yet!

Its not listed in your sig, and stock is so I'm guessing you don't have them. That's the FIRST thing you need!

Then do it in steps unless you have the extra money for a clutch just lying around.

If you tow that much you must upgrade to a 13" with South Bend otherwise your warrenty will be void. Also with as much power as your talking about you would easily slip a 12" with that much weight behind it. South Bend is a great company to deal with. I'm planning on purchasing a dual disk from them in a few months.

Also I think with injectors as big as your wanting you'd need a bigger turbo for the amount of weight you pull. Why not look into 370's and a AFE Mega Cannon or Scotty II. Your going to have to manage your air/exhaust into this power equasion as well. AFE/Scotty II will take care of the air situation, but I'm guessing your still running the factory 3". Is it straightpiped? If not lose the muff and cat/resinator to help keep EGT's outta the danger zone.

I'd take everyone else's advice, do it in steps and see where your at EGT-wise with the amount of weight your pulling. Then go from there.
