You have to read this! Operator ERROR!
Re:You have to read this! Operator ERROR!
So, aside from not knowing much about the engine, what exactly did he do wrong? The light came on and he called it in...then pulled over and killed the engine at the first safe chance he got. Sounds like whoever didn't put the drain plug back in should be the one to go....not the driver (who really didn't do anything wrong from what you said above). Did I miss something?? ???
If it were I, I would of had the eng. shut down as soon as the light came on! Traffic or no Traffic! That's why they put flashers on vehicles.
Seems to me a red light with the words STOP ENG. is pretty cut and dry. ??? And yes the city does hire some people that should not run equipment, job security! ;D

He was sitting at a red light with the truck running while he called it in to ask, ""what does this red light with the words STOP ENG. mean?". He ran the truck up to 5min's with no oil in it, before he shut it down.

If it were I, I would of had the eng. shut down as soon as the light came on! Traffic or no Traffic! I think not. I drove for a lumber yard for 4 years in college and one of the things they always pounded into our heads was that if something were to go wrong with the truck the most important thing to do was try and get it off the road. Same thing when I drove buses. Even if you risk damaging the truck more, it's better to do that than cause an accident where someone could be badly injured or killed.

Just my humble opinion of course...but I think he did the right thing by waiting to get off the road before he shut it down. He obviously shouldn't be operating equipment if he had to call in to figure out what the light meant...but shutting her down in traffic wouldn't have been very safe.
