YIKES, cement on paint
I just got back from camping , and i was washing down my rig when the mud turned out to be cement.
I work on a construction site. On Friday, they were pouring one of the floors. I must have driven through some cement without realizing it
friday night i went camping on the beach, and when i got home and did my washdown i found the cement on the front fender.
Anyone have a trick of removing it??i left it for now, i didn`t want to scratch the paint. a soapy brush didn`t do the trick

I second dieselminded, I work for Croell Redi-mix and have had cement on trucks and peoples cars taken off with muratic acid. most any cement plant facilities should carry it, but start out with delooting it down with water first! it is strong stuff, but should not harm your paint!
thx for the replies, gonna tackle it this weakend. there is a mason supply by me, hope they have it.
Any tips on how to apply it? how about the potential dammage to my skin
what precautions should i take? rubber gloves?
Do i put this stuff on, and scrub it with a brush?
Thx again

well, Myself I do not use gloves or anything, but I am used to it, we clean our cement trucks twice a week with the stuff so ,-not a good idea for anybody who hasn't worked with the stuff! hard one verything! makes u itch just by the drift of spray, and it is hard on the hands and arms, specially with cuts or scratches, so....wear some gloves, longsleeves and some goggles, use a spraybottle, this would work cause the stuff works the best to be directly applied before the air gets it! like I said though, delude a little of it down first, you can always go stronger if you need to!
Muratic acid will work but is nasty stuff. Go to Home Depot and get Phosphoric Acid instead. Works as well and alot safer. It's in the paint dept near the floor paints and is called Behr Concrete cleaner #991.

If you use Muratic acid .....DO it outside its very stong.
dont do it on concrete or it will discolor it
its almost like water so Im not sure if a brush will work we use a garden sprayer just dont let it splash on you and hose it off and repeat till gone.
AND most importantly DO NOT MIX WITH BLEACH it goes caustic and lets off a green cloud that will make you run for cover it burns your eyes real bad ,,hurts your lungs and makes you cough like you got black lung, its a real nasty mix and it creates a bubbling crude of green/yellow suds.
not that I would know
............
I thought Id save some time on a water bath at work I was bleaching my water and I desided to clean the lime off the screens at the same time useing muratic acid it didnt mix too well and things got real bad luckly I had my resperator on but I still got a lesson from the boss.

Speaking fom experience-I would not use muratic acid. I agree with Behrmn, use the phosphoric acid instead. It is mild and will take a little longer to work, but much mor user and truck friendly.
Use a paint brush and brush it on and let it sit. Repeat every hour or two and it will soften. Don't rub or you will scratch the paint. Use patience and let the acid do the work.
I installed ceramic tile for 20 years, and I had many a customer destroy his ceramic tile using muratic acid in an attempt to clean the grout. Yes it cleans the grout, by dissolving a layer of it. So yes it will do a number on the cement. But, if it will etch a ceramic glaze, then what will it do to your metal? Ever see acid in a metal container?? Ever leave a few tools or a metal object next to an old car battery? What happened to that metal after a few days?
Less is best. Just let the phosphoric do it's job for awhile, then blast off with a hose. I'd hate to see you damage anything. Might not notice anything right away, but then next year you will scratching you head saying "piece of junk Dodge, they rust out to fast". Good luck, Kevin

well, i tried using the behr concrete cleaner with no luck
i looked closer and the one i got is concrete cleaner and degreaser #990, NOT 991
It doesn`t say active ingredients, so i dont know if i have the right stuff. Guess i will go back to HD and look for #991
More to come
