Windows 11 sucks
Who is having problems with Windows 11? I waited until the last moment to upgrade hoping they would have fixed all the glitches. Nothing but problems. Startup failures requiring a forced shut down. Shut down problems causing more headaches. Random freeze ups. Uncommanded actions like closing a program or rebooting my computer without warning. Then of course, they dumped all my preferences making me hunt for my programs, some buried under layers of sub folders, some deleted. The "new and improved" start menu looks like a Windows 8 resurrection. Logically, you would think, an upgrade would keep all of your preferences intact. But no, they make you start all over. And then there are all the hidden trackers incorporated, some of which you can't turn off. Makes me want to throw my computer in the Cook Inlet and go back to living pre-70's.
At least it started normal this morning after fighting with it all day yesterday. Buried in the files I found the old Windows 7 control panel. That was a lot of help fixing accessibility issues and restoring the old familiar Window 7/10 look and feel. Edge and Chrome dumped a lot of my passwords and all of my extension. Anything dealing with Google is now useless, all I get is adds now.
I reloaded my internet extensions and seemed to have improved things for now. I'm getting daily updates, mostly security ones. I thought Windows 11 was supposed to be more secure. Malwarebytes is working overtime.

Win11 also takes care of you by automatically backing things up to “the cloud” if you are on an internet connection. Meaning you no longer control where your information is stored. And by extension, who can view it.
Absolutely super idea right? Mostly because hacking isn’t a thing, and you can always trust corporations etc to look out for you.
Too many negatives to even consider it...

I have a 10 year old computer that when I bought it was technically top of the line, but with all the recent advances is now a dinosaur. Like me. Have been running Windows 10 for years but now that support for it has ended, have been looking at alternatives. My computer is just shy of being capable of downloading Windows 11. Really did not want to spend the money on another computer and in any case, have read so many bad reviews of Windows 11 and Microsoft in general that I want nothing to do with MS or Google.
After extensive research have settled on keeping my dinosaur computer and installing the free Xorin MS Core18 alongside Windows 10. Have it partitioned. Have never used Linux or Ubantu, so now starting a steep learning curve. Good exercise for the few active brain cells left in my aging brain.

11 seems to be settling in now, no glitches for a while now. I'm still moving things around to get a familiar layout. I don't like were they put the power button; it should be more accessible.

So little of that going on, now a days.
I've had it with Microsoft. I'm going switch to Linux Mint. I looked at all the comparisons between Mint and Zorin and decided on Mint with a Linux Wine add on. My wife's computer runs Windows 10 and according to Microsoft it can't be downgraded to 11. I did find out however, that is not true. With the help of a free setup program called Rusus it can. But I'm not. Her's will also get switched to Mint.
