Whos Is Getting Ready To Sell There Calfs?
Well its coming close for some who are ranchers to start weaning and selling there little ones. We just pulled the baby's off there mamma's and have a pretty good calf crop this year and there going to the sale this coming Wednesday. Any one else on here raising cattle? We raise Chianina or Chi Angus pronounced ( Kee-a-nee-na) cattle these Chis are some tall breed of cattle, and have a few registered Herefords running around the place too.

We got some calves, but we don't sell 'em, grow 'em up and sell fat.
no registered stuff here, except a couple bulls, just mixes of angus, hereford, simentol, gelbvieh, and I think we may have a little limo left in one line or another

Just how old are your calves your selling right now? Our fall cows are not even all calved out yet. I'm asuming your talking about spring calves that your selling, but they would be 6 to 8 months old and not babies. We're in the process of getting all of our spring calves to the sale right now. Just holding back the younger ones and the ones with bad eyes, take them in a month or so.
So ya, good for you. It's nice to see a few fellow ranchers on here. Take care and good luck with your paycheck.

We sold the steers last week. $119 cwt, and they weighed 615, which is considerably less than last year. Unfortunately, cattle prices have went down lately. Since the drought began, our herd is around 150 pairs (angus).
Ya ours are about nine months old we lucked out this year and did not have many baldys and so we did not have eye problems from the flies or pink eye or cancer eye. Now there Herefords are another story there always seem like there looking for a place to die LOL
Guy in the shop, today, had scale-tickets and check-stubs for two seperate sets of calves sold yesterday, and two weeks ago, at the same yard.
First check was for fourteen steers, average weight of 501.
Second check was for fourteen steers, average weight of 493.
The most recent check was almost $1400, to the penny, less money than the check from two weeks ago.
He is an experienced cow man and said that the second set of calves were almost exact mates of the first set.
I relate this to give an idea of just how much the market has dropped.

We have beef cattle... Angus/Brangus cross... I don't even know how many Mammas are running now - it's my husband and father-in-laws operation. There's somewhere around 300-400 mamma cows. I'm so tied up with my job I don't keep up with it like I used to. A few years ago there were 500, but we've lost some rent pasture since. Short/Solid cows where up pretty high a couple springs ago and they cleaned house.
We A.I.ed about 100 heifers that calved this spring. That worked really well and didn't have to buy more bulls.
We haven't sold calves - just weaned them and turned them to pasture. Let 'um grow a bit. There's also around a 100 head of 4wt mixed calves that we bought to raise to yearlings running around.
