Question Where to be a Winter Texan?

My mother is finally joining my dad in retirmement. They are coming from PA to live with us for a month this year (February). I told them they could stay as long as they want, but PLEASE use the time to look for somewhere else to live when they come down next year. The plan is to live somewhere besides PA during Jan, Feb and Mar. They want somewhere warm and near water. Dad doesn't like it near the Dallas area (where we live) as it is too crowded. His plan is to go to Florida next year. I am trying to get them to consider the Gulf coast of Texas. I have not been there (yet). I would appreciate any reccomendations on some decent little towns to live in would be.
The other question I have is this. Where do you folks that live in the south for the winter live? They don't want to buy a house where they will be, they won't tow a trailer and there is no family in the area to live with. Is it common to be able to rent a house or mobile home or condo for only 3 months in retirement areas? The best option is this, I told them I would go in with them if they bought land in Texas anywhere and put a double wide on it. They might consider that, but it is too early for them to make any big financial decisions yet. They want to wait a bit.

Thanks,
~Rob

I visited a little town near San Antonio called Llano but it isn't on the coast. It's full of friendly hard-working people we stayed in their city park for two weeks free. Livingston is a great town a little north of Houston. Close enough to the water for me. In Livingston is an RV club called the ESCAPEES. It's a club of mostly retired people who live and travel in their RV's full time. I also full time.

I'm a desert rat though and I'm moving to Nevada.

If they want saltwater, they're probably going to like Florida a lot better than they do anywhere along the Texas Gulf coast. If they want ANY water though, there are some beautiful lakes in Texas that they could live around.

I'm in Corpus Christi this week on business and there are tons of trucks pullling travel trailers and all of the license plates I see are from up north. This is nice place and it seems to be a popular winter spot for the northerners.

I am in Ingleside, about 18 miles from Corpus. Been here since August and I love it here. Port Aransas, Aransas Pass, Rockport are all nice. Today is was in the 80's as will be tomorrow unless it snows again! Not really, snow is as rare as hens teeth down here. The people are friendly, the fishing is great and it helps to speak Spanish!!

My grandparents wintered in Zapata, Texas for many, many years. Weather was half way decent, and the fishin' was great. They towed the Airstream down each year (served as a guest house) and they bought a nice one bedroom trailer that met their needs.
