What does "muffler or other noise suppressing device" mean to you?

Got a copy of the Pennsylvania DMV Inspection code.

turns out the book is stating that a "Muffler or other noise suppressing device" must be present and total decibels on a hard surface (highway) under load may not exceed 92 decibles.

The book does not define or give examples of "other noise suppressing device(s)".

this is legal
if this is the line -----------
this is illegal

and this is me x

this is what I am thinking

-----x----x------x----x
x x

I am walking the fine line if I remove my muffler unless someone has information on what a "other noise suppressing device" is.

Think I am going to call the local inspector offical to get a ruling.

A good flow thru muffler mite work....but knowing PA's inspection standards I am sure they will not pass you without a muffler in place...most PA inspection mechanics insist that you have a muffler on and that your exhaust system dont have any leaks

short enough to make two transition pieces.

I have snow under the truck now or I would go look.

I think the factory muffler is between 36 and 40" long? That would give me two 11" pieces.

I wish the factory muffler was a straigh through rather than offset. It makes conversions like these such a hastle.

I like my clamp on muffler. Clamp it on for inspection, remove it when finished. ;D
