Talking We'll be the ones waving

Y'all look for us this Sunday. A buddy of mine just gave me two tickets to the race at Talladega. Second tier, about three rows up at the start/finish line. The wife has never been to a race before, I've only been to one. Should be fun since they just repaved the track and the drivers are saying it's fast. Y'all look for us, we'll be the one's wearing ball caps and waving at the camera's!!!

I do have a couple hats with Cummins on them. Bet that will start a fight. Like it's really hard to get a bunch of intoxicated fans at an outdoor event where the left turn is king, who think their driver's stuff doesn't smell, stirred up enough to take a poke at someone who's obviously bigger than most of them because they don't like my hat. Yep, welcome to Nascar!

Sunday sure was interesting. We got up about 0430 to be on the road by 0530. Let the dog out one last time and noticed that someone may have over stoked the fireplace. As we were leaving we thought we might drive around a little to locate the source of the smoke as it was pretty thick. By the time we got three streets over we found it. THE WOODS WERE ON FIRE!!! 911 the fire department and start waking up neighbors because the fire was within 30 feet of two houses and closing fast. 0610 fire department is on the scene and we're finally headed east toward Talladega. Once we hit the track traffic it took about 45 minutes to get to our parking spot. Now it's been about 25 years since I've been to Talladega and boy has it changed. People out the wazoo! We did the souvenir thing, loaded the Ram and then went into the track. The seats were killer, Moss-Thornton tower right behind the flagman at the start finish line!!! The temperature never got above 78* with scattered clouds, as a matter of fact it was kinda cool with the wind. This was a great day and I think my wife is hooked. She liked the sound of the cars as they went by and it looks so much faster than on TV. Now, for all you Jr. and JJ fans, I am sorry. It looked to us like Vickers should have pulled down a little sooner. If he had JJ wouldn't have slowed when he dropped below Jr. to pass him but like someone said once before, that's racing. Fight the crowd to get back to the truck and decide to wait a little while to leave. Now as you can imagine sitting in a field, after an event that sells and encourages you to bring your own beverages, you might expect to see some interesting things. We were not disappointed. We met two nice young men from Baltimore after I helped them chase down a hit and run driver in the field. I am never surprised at the lengths intoxicated people will go to avoid being caught. It really doesn't matter how many cars you get around on your way to the gate, if the traffic isn't moving beyond the gate you're not going anywhere. Two and a half hours to get home and boy were we tired. Can't wait till next year!!! Rick
