Well guys.... I spent a HUGE CHUNK of my BOMB money.....
I went and did it
All this talk about LASIK and other eye surgerys made me decide to bite the bullet and get the surgery. Im pretty much tired of wearin glasses, and at 600 bucks a pair, and a minus 6 ( U read right, im almost blind) prescription, i decided to see if i was eligable for lasik, turns out that I am, according to our local Dr. (If you are in laredo Dr Schnieder on McPherson) BUT after much consideration and agitation cause of his lazy staff, i have decided that a second opinion was in order for this. So i will be going to Dr David Shulman in San Antonio. His reputation speaks for itself with this kind of work. I have been researching on LASIK for over a year, and have come to the conclusion that price isnt an option, although, cleaning out my 1600 dollars in my BOMB fund for the 4300 dollar surgery was kind of depressing. I had to get a loan and use the ram for colateral. 4300-1600 leaves me with a 2700 dollar loan i have to pay off.
Well i figure, im tired of using scratched up glasses and worrying about dropping them and so forth. Cattle work is not easy on them either or anything i do for that matter. I know me, and contacts im farr to irresponsible for. So LASIK was the way to go.
Ill keep you all posted as towards how it goes. i get worked on, on the 10th of February, i just need to know what to expect from those of you that have had it. I go for the next consultation and payment on the 18th of January in San Antonio..
Yes you can get the lasik done in mexico for 1/3 the price, but if you are malpracticed on, ur pretty much outta luck. Its closer to me and seems to be the alternative method, but with only one set of eyes, it be pretty hard to trust a gamble like that. id rather get it done and done right..
Just was bored and needed to get this out.. It kinda hurts that the money ive worked to save goes.... I hope i get a better job soon, but i hate the waitin game for interviews and so forth...
Have a good day guys
Tx

My brother had that done, he was about half blind,When he went in the Dr. asked me if I wanted to watch him do it. My brother came out after only being in there about 45 min. and all he said when I had asked him if his eyes hurt he said that it felt like there was sand in them.It went away the next day. He is very happy that he had the Lasik done.
Tx,
I wish you the best for your surgery. I turned in my paperwork last week to get mine done. My surgery will probably happen sometime in March.
You did the right thing by getting a second opinion ... not good when you don't have confidence in the staff. A good Dr. will not allow his staff to be like that ... doesn't represent them well at all.
Good luck to ya and keep us posted,

I got PRK done on mine, military paid for it, but I would have shelled out the cash myself if I had known it would be this nice. It did feel like my eyelids were made of sandpaper if you don't use the numbing drops they give you. ouch.
gave my wife a present of Lasik eye surgery here in CA , it was only 600 dollars for both eyes. this guy is good and she loves it still after 3 years even the really bad eyes cost 600 per eyes here.... after talking to the Doctor , the reason for the difference in prices , for the more costly operation you do get a 10 year warranty versus one year for the 300 per eyes. both are the same procedure.

im still nervous about it, but i figure it will be worth it...Tyler and Chris,
at least you both are candidates, i know contacts suck, and i also know that glasses free is the way to be. Heck my glasses are so scratched up it aint funny.
Warranty on LASIK? Hmmm i was told this surgery was permanent, and that i would no longer need glasses for everything, once i hit mid 40s then i would for reading once again since the eye naturally changes shape. The human male eye stops developing and changing at age 21-22, at first i was told it was 23, the more your eye changes the higher your prescription gets, or changes, once it sorta stables out or minimally changes then you can have the LASIK, that is my understanding..

I'm also looking at lasik this year but from the one doctor that I've talked to thus far, it apparently isn't uncommon to need "adjustments" down the road. I think that part of the price difference is based on whether the adjustments are included or whether they cost separately. The Dr. that I talked to said that his price included free adjustments.
Yes, the surgery is permanent and yes, either it works or it doesn't but as I understand it, your eye may change slightly after the surgery and the adjustment (follow-up surgery) is to "tune-up" your vision after that change.
I'd like to go totally glasses free but I'm too cautious to jump in with both feet so I'm considering having just one eye done and then if I'm happy with it, get the other done. I only have one pair of eyes and I sure hate to put both of them at risk at once.
