Drop about $1600 on a new front loader and matching dryer. They will just about pay for themselves in saved water and electric in a few years.
If you do, get an extended warranty on all those those uProcessor controlled things... You'll need it!

I wonder if they speak OBDII?

A couple years back the Amana washer started making a LOUD noise in spin. I looked at it and decided I wanted no part of it especially since I was real busy on side work. Called a independant repair dude, he looked at it and said it was beyond reasonable cost to fix it. He then told us of Sears 'Warranty plan" . Basicaly spend something on an appliance ($142.00 in my case) and they will fix it for a year whatever it is. If they deem it non fixable they were giving a $500 gift certificate tward a new one at Sears. We ended up with the cert and found a $800 washer on clearance for 502 bucks. So what if it was dented. My total outlay to sears $144.

I normally would not send anyone to Sears for repair work but how could a guy go wrong with this?

I saw an antique washer running powered by a little step-start 2 stroke motor at the Tennessee-Kentucky Threshermen Asso. show in Adams Tenn. a coupla years ago...had water & rags in it and the agitator worked...pre-wringer type.

IF the motor is still trying to turn the tub but simply cant there may be some plastic gears busted and binding up. Ours did this some years ago, check under the cap at the center of the tub. Ours has two gears on the center shaft that by shape will collapse when the center hub spins one way but expand and engage teeth on the tub and spin it when turned the opposite way. The action is very much like a ratchet wrench. I think the two gears cost me $5 maybe.

Just spent $188. or so on having washer fixed. Only a couple of year old Kenmore and near top of the line. It was the switch by the lid, breaks from lid being slammed. Switch was about 26 bucks or so. I didn't have to me it was worth it, Dont have to tools here to trouble shoot and find the right part. Sears come out and fixed it.
When I wuz a kid, and a washer that was hand shifted and a manual wringer. The dryer wuz abot 200 feet long , with pins.

***Update***

My father-in-law had a warsher that is about a 1 1/2 old, it's been sitting for about a year in storage. I got it home yesterday and plugged everything in, and it works great! So I'll get it cleaned up today and swapped around. Then I'll play around with the other one and let ya all know what becomes of it. This warsher is a Kenmore and they paid about $600 bucks for it. It's a energy efficient model.

Thanks for everbodys help!

Tye

P.S. I offered several times to buy a new one for her, but this is what she wanted to try 1st.
