Re:user names
Morning Top,
Never got to T-land. Had to spend all our refits in Australia. I did some ops on the little guys, but most of my surface excursions were on the 165 footers with the Coastal Surveillance Group (part of TF 117). We operated mostly out of Cam Rahn. Supported a bunch of the "green hats" at Na Trang. Bunch of ops up north supporting various SpecOps groups.
The boats were fast and deadly. Twin GM diesels provided most of the power but when we had to get in a hurry, that 26,500 hp gas turbine (basicly an F-4 Phantom engine) worked real well. We had a 100 round per minute 76 mm cannon up forward, 2-40mm Bofors aft, 4-twin 20mm's, 4-twin .50 cals, and 2-81mm breech load mortars.
We stayed real busy during the Easter Offensive of '72. Operated up around Hue and Phu Bai when the NVA started making their push down Hwy 1. Life was real interesting for a while.
Left the Brown Water Navy and went back to submarines and finally checked it to them in '78 after 9 1/2 years. Went to work for the Army National Guard as a technician and still in uniform. Still being the old gunner, I'm presently rebuilding the Small Arms Readiness Training Section from its awsome state of disrepair. Don't know if that 0-6 on the hill did me a favor or not but it's working out.
Got to run. Being the weekend warrior today and got formation in 30 min. Back later.
"Shortround-6 out"

Mine's not too creative, First Inital, last name. Dave Rafalske. Just please don't try to pronounce the last name, people have been butchering it for as long as I can remeber.

hehehe.

I kinda miss that old job. Sometimes very exciting, sometimes very boring, but always good people there. I do miss being in the military, especially when it comes to benefits.

Would not surprise me if you had been on one of those boats that we would chase charlie to so you could open up on them. Did quite a number of those hammer and anvil routines. Back em up to the river and watch you boys crawl into the paddies and smoke em. Always amazed me how you guys could climb back over the levee to the river and reverse the jets to blow out the rice and crud.
Quite a platform you had to work with.
Voodoo 7 clear

Boy, alot of military men here.. wow...

Mine was/is my CB handle.. I had an 89 at the time and my lil ol truck was definitely not the most powerful (at the time ) Also my pop was a salesman for MACK and I sorta liked how tough those old trucks were. Sorta saw that in my 89, not the most beautiful truck but tough as nails. I had the MACK mudflaps on the truck. So after some thought from Lil Dodge came Lil' Dog. Had to have something from MACK in there..LOL...

J-eh

Smokin Joe comes from one of our pilots at 498th Dust Off in Nam in 70-71. Another CE still calls me "Newbie" 32 years later. Seems like Smokin Joe and Newbie is always taken, so I changed to Smokin J. Welcome home everyone.

Re:user names
Mine's fairly obvious, the wife and my Dad were always makin comments on all that "RATTLIN" coming from under the hood. ;D
It sounded good to me,,,

Great lookin scooter Ed.
Mine looks like yours, but it sill wears the original brown factory paint that came on the first year Classic in 77. I still run the fairing and "comfort-flex seat" too. I've got the small tourpack which is in need of some repair after the lid popped off crossing the RR tracks. >
