One of the greatest fears of a grunt when he is calling in close gun fire support, is for the rounds to land short of the target. Therefore the nickname of "short round". The good old nic has followed me around now for 30+ years. Guess I'm still shooting good, 'cause I ain't hit any of our guys yet.
[/quote]
I bet you a weekend R&R at Suzy's tiger den in Banghok that we have worked very closely together. You still remember the Hammer and Anvil routine's we used to pull in the Nam?
Nice to run into you here Shortround. As I recall dang few of the rounds you fellows fired on those combined operations of ours ever fell short! Got to love a Sailor that wears a Black Beret!

For those of you that don't know what a Bull Thistle is , It is a weed that has very sharp spines.
They are very annoying and very agravating, you can't hardly kill them out on the farm or in your yard. They are very painfull to step on. They grow to be 4-5 ft. tall, and when I was a young kid my dad used to say that I could be as agravating as a Bull Thistle. ;D ;D Hence the name Bulthisl.
For the life of me I never could understand why he thought that. :
Anyway it stuck with me.

: Eddie : 8)

Way to go Jack. I wish I could come up with something cool like that.

The normal way for a Navy guy to enter the landing pattern at an airport is via the break, or overhead in civilian circles. Normally we'll break at the upwind numbers after overflying the entire runway at 1000' AGL (above ground level). A SHORT FIELD BREAK is when you execute the break right at the beginning of the runway, pull power to idle, roll it to 90 degrees angle of bank and pull some G's while losing a lot of altitude and airspeed fast. It's a lot more fun, but never done in the P-3. Go figure.

The other one I like using is Peanutrider. My ex's family has a young, very spirited Arabian whose stable name is Peanut (because her mother, while pregnant, was chunky like chunky peanut butter). Nobody wanted to ride her because she's so wild, but I said I would just to see the reaction. I'm such a novice equestrian, I'd get bucked on my head before you can say "trick pony".

I still like shortfieldbreak the best though.
