turbo whine same as Tinnitus - fatiguing on long trips?

who else has had to take off thier air intake due to the whistling driving them nuts on long trips?

we put 13.5 hours / 850 mile on the 06 this weekend (at 9mpg) with a 24ft behind it.

the wife got a DVD player for Christmas, so we played one movie thru the input jack on the factory stereo (had to BLAST it to hear the voices) and she listened to 2nd movie on earphones, so it was quiet in cab, just the whine & the ringing having a concert in my head.
saw) in the bottom of the box, it was STILL annoying.

with stock air tubes, stock airbox lid, regular filter, and 3 holes (deadbolt hole
anyone have a cure for Tinnitus?

this sounds like a ripoff:

One remedy - - get tinnitus and you won't hear it.

Mine is very quiet and I have a RamAirIII filter setup. It was quiet with the stock on it, nothing like the new Fords - - now that is a whine. Don't understand why you would be hearing it. Check the clamps around the turbo - - mine developed a whistle when I had a broken clamp.

After installing the BHAF on my 2nd generation, my wife complained about the constant turbo whistle and whine on long trips. I installed the Turbo Air Guide (TAG) honeycomb flow straightener for other reasons but found that it eliminated 70% to 80% of the turbo racket, which allowed me to keep the BHAF.

Boy!! Try having a bigger turbo with no silencer ring, louder intake system, and a hole in your hood!! Talk about loud!! I love it.......

My wife loves my whine also. She was jealous when the vw did't have a loud whine to it.

Huh?

What did you say?

Oh...no I don't hear any whinning.

Many years of loud music, gunfire and driving a diesel is why it doesn't bother me I guess.

You need to develope "selective hearing", like when you don't hear anything that your wife says.

the TAG sounds good. I need to open my intake up (was a real dog towing this weekend) but i won't do it at the expense of losing more hearing
