Tuning twin CB antennaes

Going to try to finish my CB install this weekend. Never tuned twins before. They will be on stake pocket mounts right behind the cab.

When I make adjustments for SWR, do I adjust both of them at the same time, or adjust one for lowest SWR then start on the other antenna?

Thanks.....Steve

If they are adjustable (don't have to cut), do one at a time and then check them together. they should be close then but you may have to tweek it just a little.

Thanks Butch. Yes, they are adjustable. They have little stingers and a set screw on the top of them. I guess I will just play with one of them to get the lowest possible SWR, then start adjusting the other to bring the SWR down even more. Sounds like a lot of trips in and out of the bed and up onto the toolbox. Oh well.....All in the name of progress.

Thanks
Steve

The correct way is to attach one feed line to a 50 ohm dummy load while you tune one antenna. Then switch the dummy load to the feedline of the antenna you just tuned, and tune the remaining antenna. The phasing lines should be included during the tuning process.

There's a CB shop back home that tunes them for free or a small charge ($5). Something to think about.

Buy your buddy a six pack and let him set in the cab, beer in one hand, mic in the other, and in between sips he can yell out "better" or "worse"...I'm free his weekend, but you live too far...It'd cost you a case...
