Angry Truck Almost Stolen……….

I hate to post about bad things but my ex-girlfriends Dodge truck was almost stolen recently. She was out of town for a few days on business when she came home on Sunday night to find someone running from her workshop to her house. She lives on 10 acres in Deer Park Washington in a somewhat remote area. What makes it so bad is that she is such a nice person who does not deserve this. Anyway she comes home and sees a guy running from the broken-into workshop into the broken-into house. Three thieves had ransacked her house, loaded up her Dodge and had it running about to be stolen. Stole all of her jewelry, guns and many nice personal things. Here’s where it gets interesting…….as she and her boyfriend pull up, two people start running from her house towards the back of the property. A third runs out from the back of the house and takes shots at her with her own 35mm pistol. The thieves left property and footprints through the snow for a long way. After the police arrived they followed the footprints and dropped stolen possessions down to a house where they found a 16 year old, a 20 year old and a 22 year old walking back up the road to collect some of the stuff…….It was her own neighbors from a couple of miles down the road. Nothing but pure trash that could have easily taken her life for drug money. They were arrested because they had her gun and some possessions. Personally, if they would have taken a shot at ME on MY property with one of MY guns I would have shot all three of them in the back as they ran off. What makes this whole situation worse is that she was recently in Texas for X-mas and her place was ransacked again, undoubtedly an act of vengeance by the trash that did it the first time….only 2 weeks later.

I told her to……..
1. Install a monitored security system.
2. Fence in the majority of her property and get 4 or 5 rottweillers trained to attack.
3. Since she has “Posted no Trespassing” signs up shoot at anything she feels is a threat.
4. Let me “Booby Trap” her places incase the punks try to sneak up again.

What would YOU do?

LAND MINES IN THE YARD.

JK....That is sad. I pray that no-one every try's that on me while im at home.

I hope they get in big trouble over this.

i would definately go with the buglar alarm, and a neighboor hood watch system or something. Or fence the yard in and put a big, mean dog in there.

Here is a link to the story about the 1st break-in..........

http://www.spokanesheriff.org/news/a...003/12/16b.pdf

She said that the trash was still in Jail during the second break-in but must have informed someone about her possessions and house......they knew exactly where to go.

Guys and girls, I agree this this is a bad situation but please refrain from making suggestions and recommendations as to what to do on the site here. While boobytraps, landmines, and Rottweilers sound like a good idea, the owner of the property is still held liable for any injuries in most cases. The owners of this site could potentially be held liable in our great justice system if something would happen to an individual and it was linked to this site.
Again, this is a bad situation but please keep the recommendations or other actions off the site and on personal e-mail if necessary. I and the other moderators will be watching this one and will close it if this continues.
I know I can count on your support and that closing the thread will not be necessary.
Thank you.

Forget the booby traps, nothing but bad can come from that. Some innocent will get hurt and you are liable even if the person is hurt in the process of burglarizing your place.

A good Home security system, a safe for your irreplaceable possessions and firearms, and good insurance are your best bet.

A dog will keep 99% of burglars away as well. The problem here is they know her well enough to know her schedule and probably even become friendly with the dog

I don't even think bad bad Leroy Brown would mess with someone who can handle a 35mm pistol.

My apologies for the sensitivity of the original post. I was only being emotional for a wonderful young person who’s life has been turned upside down. I would never condone violence in a public forum. Think about it if it was a loved one of yours. The thing that get’s me is the level these kids go to these days…armed robbery, burglary, drugs, etc. Things are so much worse since I was a 20 yr. old.

I know exactly how you feel, if you remember a while back I wrote a thread where the tool box on my truck was broken into in Charlotte NC and they took four tool boxes out of there. This was just about six feet outside the window in the room I was staying in. I parked there for a reason and they stil did it. I am still paying for the stuff they stole and I still see red. I considered all kinds of things but in the end, feel fortunate that they did not get further than they did and above all, no one got hurt. As hard as it is to take, posessions can be replaced, lives can not.

I'm afraid that if they are brave enough to shoot at humans I bet they would have no problem shooting a dog. It's just unfortunate that people have to do these things. I could never imagine steeling anything let alone breaking into someones house and then steeling things. It's amazing what some people will do.

I don't know about the laws in hte US, but over here the authorities advise that the best you can do is to install an alarm system that will take pictures and therefore will generate evidence. It will also reduce time until the burglars are found and therefore increase the chance to get back the stolen goods.
I don't think that violence against burglars is to be recommended since a.) there are possible legal concerns and b.) there is a good possibility of them shooting back.

Just my 2c

These things are very frustrating. I caught someone trying to steel one of my camaros a long time ago. I did nothing as they ran off. I knew who it was and confronted them later. Advised them to stay well clear of me and my belongings. Never a problem since.

NOW, if they are in the HOUSE it is FAIR GAME boys and girls! The guns stay locked up and I do not/will not carry. Tang soo!

Protect yorself however you feel necessary.

I couldn't agree with you more on the safe. Spending around $1000 on a nice safe will ensure that your weapons don't get into the wrong hands. Of course you can always keep one out when you are home to use for protection. I just hate seeing people who own dozens of firearms just stashing them under the bed or have them just lying around the house. How I look at it is if you can afford enough firearms to build an arsenal, you can afford a nice quality safe. I got mine on sale at Bass Pro shops for about $750 bucks. It took 4 big guys to get this thing in the house. Oh yeah....jewelry and other valuables store nicely in gun safes too. Just my $.02

This is personal and touchy subject for me.....

My house was broken into about 15 yrs ago and my guns, electronics and personal items were taken. I have good insurance and everything was replaced at full value.

It's not that the items were stolen ...... it's the violation of my families space that really ticked me off. My two daughters, one in high school and the other in elementry, came home to find the mess. The older one is pretty much over it, but the younger, now almost 24, married and has a daughter of her own, still has a hard time going home by herself or staying by herself.

In the process of ransacking the house they pulled everything out of the drawers, including my wife's and girls undergarments.....they were horrified that some low-life had "touched" them and threw everything away.

Unfortunatly, todays permissive society with the drugs and personal rights is a real disgrace to this and every other country where lienacy permitted.

I would hate to take a life, but when it comes to my family......the bad guys had better back off.........

I spoke to her yesterday. She told me that she had cancelled her holiday plans to stay home and do one thing........she and her boyfriend are going to pull the vehicles into the garage and stay in the house's basement all day. It is snowing so it will look like no one is/has been home. If someone decides to break in again, guess what....."praise the Lord and pass the ammunition".

Amen

If I were you, I would call her and tell her you just broadcast her plans on the internet in a PUBLIC forum. This way if anything happens, the authorities now have evidence that it is a premeditated ambush.

No matter what happens now, no way to say it is self defense, as this proves it was a calculated attempt to draw in the culprits and shoot them.

You talk like this in public and you pay the cost, there are even terroristic threat laws that come into effect and all because somebody runs their mouth about this stuff in public.

Do the right thing and call her and tell her to let the Authorities deal with it.

The end to a discussion that is quickly moving out of bounds.
