Tried To Burn My House Down

Every Spring when I shut down the coal stove I sweep the chimney so in the Fall I dont have to mess with it. My cap had a hole in it that opened up in the Summer (buying a stainless cap today instead of steel) and this fried little guy decided to make a nest in my chimney. I smoked out my house pretty good.

Of course my brother-in-law had my ladder so I had to improvise. I had my daughter get a bunch of blankets and put on the deck to get off the roof. What a fun way to spend my morning.

I guess that must be the reason for cleaning the chimney right before heating season.

Glad the only damage was smoke.

I believe I am going to have to sweep the chimney 2X a year. I like to do it in the Spring because the sulfur in the coal dust makes acid and will eat the liner out.

The chocolate lab got his daily charcoal limit today. He was chewing on that crusty bird for 1/2 hour before it was gone
