Tire rotation
Tread separation, cough*Firestone*cough, isn't related to rotation, it's related to heat build up due to low inflation pressure.
You should rotate in an "X" provided they are not directional. Radial tires have at least 2 steel belt covers that have opposite angles when they overlap in manufacturing. You will see longer mileage out of a set of tires when you use a regular rotation routine. I personally rotate my tires every 10,000 miles. However......if a tire develops an irregular wear pattern, on the shoulder for example, it will continue to wear in that area more rapidly than in the other area of the tire.
If a tire shows irregular wear on the outer shouder on the front and it is moved to the back, in the new position in the back it will wear the same as the other areas of the tire, but it will appear to wear more rapidly because more tread was already gone when it was noticed on the front.
