Not a roper, but produce longhorn calves. Does that count?

caleb...I know what you mean when you say you want to be great at one event instead of good at a few...thats why i quit roping when I was younger..my dad told me I couldnt rope worth...lol you know..but after about 5 or 6 yrs i decided I didnt care I still had that want and itch to rope so i did.. and ya know..i aint as bad as my dad said i was lol....as far as horses goes...i would love a made horse at times..but glad i have my own product of my horsemanship skills..granted he will try and cheat and duck once n awhile..or he will get overbearing in the box..but all that will come with more time and practice...although when the day comes <hopefully no time soon lol> when I have kids I will make sure I have a horse or two already made for them..it truely gives you an advantage having a made horse that you can just concentrate on your roping skills and not have to worry about position, speed, rate, and everything else...I just cant wait till im done with my gelding and can really start competing on him..and as far as my mare, shes a mare..need I say more lol

Phillip...im glad to see we have another roper around..and thats great that you heel for your dad and brother...Its always nice to rope with family...mine dont really rope much so its just me and my roping buddies and all of my dads old roping buddies..so i just bout know every dang person at every roping lol...your mare sounds like shes gonna make one heck of a heel horse for you..glad to hear that...its always nice when you have a young one that naturally is on the same track you are...makes is so easy...good luck with her.

Do you guys have pics of your rope horses..I have a pic of my ugly gelding in my gallery..it was taken one night before practice, and I say hes ugly cus I have always owned well breed Quarter horses n he is the first grade horse i have ever owned, and I should be getting the photos in from that roping last weekend sometime this week and I will post those.

Gadeterbob..although you arent a roper we are more than happy to have ya bs with us...my grandfather used to raise long horns years ago..jump right in with the convos

go to imageshack.us or photobucket.com and they will host them for you. just upload it to that website (they have easy instructions) and then it will give you an address to copy and paste in the reply post and the picture will appear...

this is one way of doing it

Rope a bit here myself. Haven't done so in a while, but I was out doing it every night for a time. I was a header... never could get heeling down.

Wasn't in any associations or anything... just doing it for fun.

I'm at school right now... it was easy to rope when I was out at the farm doing my equine science degree... completed my associate degree last year and took this year off to finish up my business management degree. But I will be back out at the farm next year shooting for my bachelors in equine science... so I'll have a chance to rope again.

Thats cool..I know what you mean..im going to be starting school here soon and really bumming that I wont be able to rope as much as I do now....granted I will join the rodeo team so I have an excuse to rope more lol..and thats cool your studying equine science...I decided that if I really truely want to become a vet and not take out a million loans n be in debt that I am going to go to school right now for nursing...more than likely RN but possibly only LPN depeding on availbility of classes, and I will be taking the excelerated course so I can be done in 18 months for RN and 11 for LPN...and then once I am done and making good money I am going to turn around and go back to school and work towards my dream...it is going to be alot of school and many years before im done, but I will at least be able to do what i love. Everyone thinks im crazy and tell me that they cant believe that I want to dedicate close to the next 10 years of my life to school, but i figure 10 years out of my life to make good money and to do something I love is nothing, then I will be making enuff money that I can have all the toys I want <trucks, and mods, trailers, and horses> to play with and be able to rope more...the only thing I regret is starting college so late...I wish I would have went right out of high school but there was just no way I could...oh well we all do things we regret...I hope you get to rope soon cus i know how bad it sucks not being able to.

interesting thread

here is one for yah Heather I can rope from the ground , but through my blood brother and his rope toting 9 year old son ( my god son) I get the oppotunity to participate in youth rodeos around the northwest. Will have to brag on him a little cause he makes adults stop in wonder lol. If yah have a youth rodeo association around they are always looking for people to help in the chutes and as pick up people.

Thats awesome..I love nothing more than seeing the young ones getting into rodeo at an early age...we have a little 3 year old at practice that rides this old rope horse and he chasing our scored steers and has a lil rope and all, hes a world champ in the making lol...it is nice going to ropings and seeing alot of younger kids roping and not only having a blast but kickin the butts of us adults lol....if I had time in my busy schedule I would love to help out with our AJRA<Arizona Junior Rodeo Association> or HSRA<High School Rodeo Association>, but between 4H, and coaching basketball, and training horses and I have a few kids who want lessons, god help me cus i hate giving lessons, easier to train a horse than a person lol..and I would try and help now but now that basketball season is over our AJRA and HSRA are coming to an end for the season <due to the heat> so maybe this coming year if i dont volunteer for a million more things lol
