Suckiest new type of racing?

Watched drifting on speedvision- a sport from Japan, not against the clock but olympic style judging- it is like watching olympic swim race vs synronized swimming- or hockey vs figure skating. Lame.
I agree that it's pretty freaking stupid. There is a little skill involved. But I mean come on, how much skill does it take to hang the tail end of a car out and keep it that way? I can do that in my 7000lb 4x4.
Don't even get me started on front wheel drive drag racing.

It was actually fun watching it in Okinawa with a beer when the morons would crash their rice into the curbs and an occasional telephone pole.
They all had cb's in their cars and would have lookouts for the cops too, so when the call came over everyone would scatter only to form up somewhere else.
I agree though...what's the point of it?

I have to disagree... It's a ton of fun to navigate around a racecourse maintaining as much of a full-lock powerslide as you can, and it does take a good "seat-of-the-pants" meter and some skill to flick the car from one direction to the other without spinning out.
I wouldn't call it racing, personally, since racing is head-to-head or against a clock to go the farthest in the least amount of time, but it's certainly a variation of a motorsport.
If you don't enjoy a good burnout or burning a donut (save the food references), then yeah, you probably wouldn't like it.
Again, the way they "judge it" is lame IMO, but the actual technique and driving impresses me as a motorhead.

Well, I prefer to watch the latest Chebby commercial with the 18 wheeler, loaded down to the hilt with a load of shiny new Chebbys, performing a nice "drift" at 45 mph and skidding to a controlled stop in front of the "Chevy" building........Too bad they couldn't have the truck "slap" a few ricers as it slid into a stop....

I agree with Eskimo. It is a cool exibition, but it is not a sport or a race. I like to see smoking tires and good car control, but just leave it at that. No judges or scorecards needed.

Im sorry, but this video is pretty impressive. HP wise and control wise. Listen to the tires.

Kinda neat to watch, but as far as actually calling it a "sport", I'm just not seeing it. Might as well make 12 oz. curls a sport, people do it all the time with their own stuff playing, might as well make beer drinking a sport too.
"Look at the form on Daryl, his massive forearms really make it look easy for him to tip that can to get the last drop out." "I agree Dick, not just anybody can drain a can like that!"
