( 1 ) The ticket for "illegal exhaust" is a generic term on the ticket. If he can go to court and say your truck did not have a muffler on it or it was modified to make it louder, the gavel is going to fall and I am afraid not on your side.

( 2 ) Now the flaming starts yes, I am a cop, no I am not a trooper. Troopers seem to have more time on their hands for traffic laws like this one while I am dealing with inner city crack cocaine crimes. Yes I do show up in court because A) I am suppose to, B) I will get suspended if I don't, C) I get paid to show up.

( 1 ) This was all he wrote, he didn't hear the truck and never mentioned muffler or anything. I would put one on it if I really had too to keep the stacks. I can always kake a removeable spool piece.

( 2 ) I have nothing against the guy at all, he is just doing his job. I do not envy you guys at all and your job would be the last one I think I would ever persue. You never know what you're going to get into from one minute to the next. And by the way, I do monetarily support both the State Police and the Virginia Sherriffs association every year too.

They might be able to get you for the lack of heat shields.

Notice, every semi has heat sheilds up to the point that an average human can't touch.
The Lil Red trucks also had heat shields to prevent stupid people from touching them to see if they are hot.

I think you all are missing the painfully obvious conclusion here.......

Joel was cited for "excessive coolness" with intent to distribute said "coolness" without concern for the feelings of his "un cool" neighbors. I would also venture to guess that he was displaying this coolness within 2000 yds of a public "un cool" zone.

I think this uncaring public display of "cool" behavior is utterly irresponsible and he should have the book thrown at him! Better hope you don't get the "hanging" Judge

Need a shorty muffler

I need to see where I can get one of those little Donaldson shorty four inch mufflers before I go to court. Just in case they ask. I can always make a little spool piece and take it in and out.

Perhaps a trip to the local State Police barracks might clear up the matter in a few minutes.

The VA State Police control the Safety Inspections.

If "Modified Exhausts" are illegal, they sould be writing up a zillion tickets with all the Duck-Phart pipes on the Thumper-Skates.

I know where the chief trooper is that inspects the inspection stations. I'm going to give him a call next week.

Not having a muffler in Va. is legal I check with my inspection man he said their is a DB noise ''loudness'' Law not one for mufflers . In the second breath he did say their is a law concerning altered exhaust. Joel let us know what happens Good or bad.

I believe that in TX at least (for what it's worth) a turbo charger is considered a sound attentuating device (eg a muffler).

I wouldn't sweat it Dieseldude. By the time you get to court, You'll plead not guilty and then the Judge will ask the trooper on what bases the exhaust is illegal and the trooper will babble something stupid because you said he didn't even look under the truck, that and he probably forgot about it because he didn't think you would actually show up at all. The Judge will shake his head and throw it out and Flame the trooper for wasting the courts time. Thats my prediction, and you'll walk out with a big shyte eating grin. Good luck partner!!

If you buy the Donaldson 4" and don't have to install it, you could always put it on your key chain.

I hope the judge on your day arrives in a Cummins. That should "level the playing field." Please keep up posted and good luck with your case.

If the judge asked you if you have straight pipes, just say no your honor, they curve when turn up into the bed on second thought better not, it didn't work for a friend o mine. I thought it was hilarious but the officer didn't.
