Unhappy Squeaky Clean....Litteraly.

O.k……got the CTD cleaned up from head to toe after that testosterone fueled stint in the mud weekend before last……what we go through to impress a woman. NOW, I think that I sprayed the underside a bit much as my 2 year old truck squeaks like a first generation …..it sounds like a brake pad wear sensor but only happens when I am moving and hit small bumps. It is not dependant on speed, braking or the engine…..just real squeaky at certain times like when running a bumpy road…….

Worse case scenario……what if “evereything” needs lube….i.e Tie rod ends etc.

Can somebody get out their copy of “Holy Cow I Washed All The Grease Out” for Dummies handbook and give me the skinny on what grease and where?????

Thanks!

Tom

Since you used the term "squeeks like a 1st gen", I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's your rear springs.

You must have washed out whatever was keeping them from rubbing against each other.

No idea how to stop it though.

Try checking the torque on the u-bolts, maybe they loosened up and cleaning them aggravated it.

My 02 squeeks like crazy, but I've been unable to find it. One thing I do notice is if I spray the underside with water, the squeek goes away until it dries out. Someone suggested I separate the underside into zones, and separately spray each zone with water or Armor-All until I locate a particular area. Then zero in on it.

My first guess would be cab mounts based on that info, especially if you have nerf or step bars that mount using the cab mount locations--my reasoning is that your bushings on a truck that new (relatively, anyway) are most likely not in terrible shape, but anyplace where something related to a bushing might have been loosened would be suspect. If it's accompanied by a clunk from the front end and you've replaced your shocks, my second guess would be lower shock mounts.

I have a squeek in my front end as well. Happened right after I washed my truck off from a little stint in the mud. That was 2 years ago. I've greased and siliconed everything I can possibly think of that squeaks. Both inside and out. The thing that works best is spray some silicone on all the bushings around the front end and on the steering shaft on the inside.

O.k…….

Here’s the prognosis….blown u-joint, front drive line. I don’t think the mud caused it but I know the lift helped it. Was coming home from B.C. Canada last night when I knew something was “wrong”……drove back to the girlfriends house and went to Dodge in Smokey Point, WA this mornin’…….they are gonna replace the joint but the service rep. was kind enough to tell me that with a 6” lift it will go out periodically due to the angle of the front drive shaft………

Any one know of a remedy???????

I may start a new post about after-market modifications and the Dodge warranty…apparently Les Schwab did not advertise that my lift may cause problems……….. but Dodge is backing me up………..

Anybody BOMB’d their truck or modified it and Dodge said “OH…..You can’t do that!” Interested to hear some stories……………….

I am at 30,000 miles…..got 5k left on the warranty…………

Thanx for any advice………..

Tom

I know my front driveline isn't long for this world, due to my lift.

Vibrates pretty good over 60 on the freeway in 2 wheel.

Binds up in 4X4, nice rythmic grinding noise when turning with 4 engaged (offroad of course).

Next influx of cash I see, I'm going to have to look into fixes.

High angle driveshaft is probably the best bet, and they aren't cheap.
Especially with the non disconnect axles in the later 2002's.

I had dodge try and void my warranty cause of my fuel pressure gauge. Said it caused the lift pump to fail. Tried to blame my outside mirrors shaking on my oversize tires. Swapped them with a set of stock tires and they still did it (DC didn't like me showing them up to much). Told me my truck was surging and fuel was leaking and that they couldn't fix my cruise because of those problems. Truck has never "surged" on me in it's life. I could go on and on but what's the point. You got a nice dealer.

Phox, what's the difference between the 5" lift and the 4.5" lift? I rode if dodgediesel4x4's truck and he has a 4.5" lift on it and it doesn't vibrate at all above 60mph on the freeway. Don't know about binding in 4x4 but I don't think it does that either.

Hey guy's...it's worse than I thought. The entire front drive line needs replacement...CV and U-Joints gone. Have to go back tommorrow when the parts arrive. They still did not ask questions. Now, I am going back with a "punch list" soon...like those pesky cracks on my hinges in the console, the ashtray light that does not work and the cig lighter that pops out and hits the floor....my theory, I dropped 35k bones (then more on the accessories) for that rig...if they give me crap I will go straight to the sales manager and explain, "if you want a shot in hades for me to trade up next year...somebody needs to start puckerin'..........$$$ talks right?

As for the drive-line, I run to Seattle every weekend doing 80 mph..never a vibe......it's the off-road rompin' that got it........now I know.

mine does the exact same thing. ive checked everything, including the brakes and cant seem to fix it.

i havent really given much thought to the front driveline as I only have 295's on it.

planning on a 7" lift with 38's so Id be interested in any fixes as well

Mine's the exact same lift as Dodgediesel4x4's.
I just put 5" in my sig because it's so much easier to say.
I got more than 4.5" out of it, especially on the front end.

2002.5 doesn't have the CAD in the front axle, so the driveshaft is spinning all the time.
Hence the vibe on the freeway.

His 2001 does have the disconnect, so the DS isn't spinning in 2wheel drive, no vibe.

Not sure on the binding, might be due to mine being a little bit taller than most 4.5 skyjackers.
I'm pretty sure I got stiffer springs, or taller, or something.

His front bumper probably weighs more than mine, so it might get his front end down a bit more.
He also has the 6 speed, so his angle isn't as severe as mine is with the automatic.
