I use it has always done a good job for me. I had a problem with a coolweb toolbar that kept poping up from time to time and it took care of that. When you run it try running it in safe mode with sytem restore turned off.

Used to be my primary line of defense. Surprisingly, Microsoft's Defender works better and faster, with less overhead on my PC.

I've been using Firefox for a few months now and I really prefer it.

I am on a new computer and wanted to make sure this one doesn't get fouled up. I was using Stopzilla on my other computer and had prety good luck with it, but figured I would try something free for for now. I am spyware and virus free so far (about a month in), we'll see.
Thanks for the replies. I had heard good things in the past, just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to download something useless of that was going to do more harm than good.

I use it as part of a "multi layer" security suite I use lavasoft, pest patrol and defender as well. I find that each of them have a tendency to look for different things, so I get better protection.

I only run one of them full time, the others I scan with once a month just to be sure nothing has gotten past the full time program.

Ditto... part of a multi layer defense. Spybot is alright, but by no means does it come close to being able to catch everything.

I, too use Firefox, works very well. I am also using Lavasoft's Ad-aware, Spybot, and Spywareblaster, Along with my Norton Antivirus. All seems to work well together. No problems since Christmas when I loaded all of it on the computer.

I like spybot pretty good, and I use Ad-Aware SE Person, and Avast Anti-Virus. I like all of them. I like to run a search with Spybot and Ad-Aware right after another, that way it gets all the stuff off here.

Okay, me too. I use the Free. If I lose my drivers I'm gonna be one unhappy camper here.

Apples and oranges. AVG is for viruses, and Spybot is for spyware.

Hmmm! When I downloaded the AVG it came with spyware protector. My wife's work computer got infected with spyware and I downloaded AVG and the AVG found it, were Spybot missed it?

I work in IT for a living and spybot has never removed any drivers, and I load it on EVERY new computer since spyware is getting nuts. It sucks that we can't use ONE product that will do everything. Just pay attention to the options you check and nothing bad should happen. These programs are designed to be used by people with little or no computer knowledge. Defender is very good and microsoft should be on top of updating it. Now it just needs to come out of BETA form. Just think, we used to only have to worry about viruses. Wonder what new malware will come out in the future. Not looking forward to that.
