Anyone here use QuickBooks?

I use QuickBooks in my business. To back up my data, it is now taking 5 floppy discs. I installed a CD burner yesterday to use instead. Now when I click the backup program, QuickBooks doesn't recognize the F drive, which is the burner drive. The burner works for anything else I try to backup. QuickBooks help line says it is a hardware problem and the burner company says it is a QuickBooks problem. Anybody have a clue? ???
Thanks

Just a thought but what if you backed up all your data then did a reinstall on the quickbooks program. Maybe then it would see the new burner.?

Re:Anyone here use QuickBooks?

if the reinstall thing doesn't work..........

I know it would be a little extra work but why not back up to your HD and then just copy to your CD.

That's kinda what I do with my photos. I hate working off the disks so I copy them to the HD and when I'm done with editing and or deleting I send them all over to the CD burner and if it's full enough I close it up.

Good Luck.
Re:Anyone here use QuickBooks?

Thanks Thumper

I don't know if that would work. Quickbooks has a backup feature that just copies the data that I had inputed to it. In other words, it just copies all the customers, vendor, invoices, purchase orders and so forth onto a floppy. It doesn't back up the whole program. When I started using this program in Jan. 2001, it took 1 floppy disk. Now it takes 5. That is a hassle so I installed a burner. Quickbooks is not seeing that F drive, which is the burner. I have a computer at the sales counter and also one in the office. I backup the sales counter program and restore it on the office computer. Quickbooks is on both machines. That way I have the data in two locations. I don't want to tie the two machines together. The office computer is on the internet, and I don't want to risk getting a bug on the sales computer. The idea for me was to have all my data in 2 locations as well as taking the backup disk home with me in case my building burned or was otherwise destroyed. Can't be to careful.
Thanks

Re:Anyone here use QuickBooks?

Hmmm,

couple thoughts here. Is your burner drive available in other situations besides in Quickbooks? Did you install the software that came with the burner? You may need an updated driver for the burner, even if it is new. Can you format or copy a CD? Basically, does it fully work except in QB?

Why do I ask? It seems to me that you may not want to "mess" with your QB program, I wouldn't. Not in your situation. Mine yes, large business No. Ummmm when we built our last PC we had a burner that just wouldn't work. Couldn't get the system to recognize it at all. We reinstalled, got new drivers, installed new software. You name it we tried it. Finally switched to a dif burner and WALA, all was fine. Now from my experience in computers they can be a headache and just because it's suppose to doesn't mean it will. The burner in my PC works fine but when I updated to newer software and it had a hissy fit. So I'd suggest testing the CD burner in a few other areas before jumping into the deep end.

Oh make sure your burner/software supports packet write, 99% of the newer one do.

Good Luck, let me know what you end up doing.

Thumper

I think Top may be on the right track here. I haven't used Quickbooks, but you didn't have the burner (F: drive) when Quickbooks was originally installed so that may be why it's not recognizing that the burner is there. Just my $.02.

CR

Hard to say if this is one of those three or not! ;D Goodluck and check that website for your burner to be sure you have the latest firmware as well

Sorry to hear it's not working yet. I hate the idea of having to take it to someone to get it to work.

I do know sometimes if you hit it hard enough it tends to start acting right. Re:Anyone here use QuickBooks?

Tony it is QB 2001. Unfortunately that computer is not online. My office computer has the same program on it and it is online. I did download the latest updates to this computer, but I don't have the burner on this one. I didn't see anything new on the latest version that would help. I really don't want to tie the two systems together in case I get a bug on this one. The computer that I am having trouble with is the main one I use in my business, this office computer is kind of a backup if you will.
Thumper, haven't ruled out the ax yet. ;D
Thanks

Here's another thought to ponder:

What CD burner software are you using? EZCD Creator? Direct CD? Did you format the disc so that it was available to write to in drag & drop fashion? Are you using a CDR or CDRW?

Tony
