Speaking of Oil....

...someone said that Cummins recommends Delo 400. Is this true? My first oil change is going to happen this coming weekend I think and in the never ending debate over which oil is best I've decided I'm just gonna go with what Cummins recommends.

Re:Speaking of Oil....

I purchase my oil from Cummins B.C and it is Valvoline premium blue 15-40. My wife works there so I get a deal on oil and filters.

Re:Speaking of Oil....

I'm sure some folks will chime in here,,,,I know for a fact that Lewisville has a Wal-Mart, They sell Delo 400 15w-40 there for under $6 a gallon.
Valvoline is kinda hard to pin down here in Texas, some folks in other states have easy access to it, can't explain it.

Hoss, I don't know if they recommend it, but they do approve it for use in their engines. I think they have approved quite a few oils. Check the back of the container, it should have a list of all the engine manufacturers that have approved it.

Re:Speaking of Oil....

I checked a bottle of pennzoil long life 15w40 that I had at the house, and it's got 2 cummins numbers on it: CES 20076 & CES 20077. I don't know excatly what those #'s mean, but whatever oil you use should have something similiar on the bottle.

Re:Speaking of Oil....

There's a list of things you need to look for in your oil in your owners manual. I believe either the Delo or Rotella is approved. Personally I have used the Rotella 15w40 for 160k miles and have never been disappointed. I know plenty of people that use Delo, and i use it the Kubota, so IMO you can't go wrong with either one as long as you keep the oil and filter changed when it's supposed to. JMHO.

Also, Hoss, I'd be willing to bet there is a TSC (tractor supply comp) in Lewisville. You might check there, a lot of times they have the Rotella on sale for a few bucks cheaper than Wal Mart. Just a thought....

Hoss, I've used Rottela in every CTD I've owned and have probably driven nearly a million miles on it. No complaints, nothin fancy, just good oil. I stay away from synthetics. I just like ROttela.

Re:Speaking of Oil....

Hmmmmm....I'd be interested in a poll to see the breakdown on who uses what oil. Any moderators/administrators want to set that up?? I think it would be interesting to see what the "most popular" oil is.
