Spanish teaching courses

I am trying to learn spanish (latin dialect) and am interested in doing so at home in my spare time, i know i could go to some college courses and learn, but the majority of them are european (i.e. proper) dialect and there is not much call for that in my area (and profession) so i was looking at rosetta stone, but my pockets aren't deep enough for that right now so, i'm looking at some other methods, such as the one by Penton's, living language, Barrons, and Berlitz. My question is, has anyone used any of these, and if so what did you think of the one you used? How much did you learn, was it worth the money, and would you recommend it? Thanks in advance.

Anyone else have any personal experience with the Spanish (Latin American version) of Rosetta Stone? I need to learn enough to get by here, we are looking to buy some more rental properties with "built in" tenants, none of which speak English. Cheaper to just be able to communicate with them than give them the boot.

I am learning by talking to someone who actually speaks Spanish, Latin style. SHe is teaching about 2-4 phrases or words a day. When we see each other, we talk with what I know.

I know about 7 different phrases since Tuesday. I speak them everyday to her. Things like "How are you?" "And you?" "Good Morning" "Good Afternoon" "Yes" "Thank you" "Your Welcome" "Doing Good" "Not good"

I want to learn more. And she is helping a lot. She says for a beginner, I am talking like I know it already.

Sounds like a nice way to be able to learn, I wish I had someone to help me out.

Embarrassing as it is (for me and the MD school system) I took 2 years of Spanish and can't communicate. I only know numbers, colors, and some basic bartering skills for beating Mexicans down on prices.
I work out with a guy that is the same way, 2 full years of Spanish, can't get by in a regular conversation with what he knows.

i got the free demo from rosetta stone, have not looked at it yet. but they will take a payment plan i think five pmts of $45 or something like that. seven less trips to mcdonalds in a month could pay for that.

side note,CBTUMEDIC, will you be attending the alvarado meet this weekend??

For something that is a bit non traditional, take a look at;

With this system you will learn new words very fast. The grammar comes later. Not only that, it is very cheap compared to the usual language schools.
