Some people just don't get it...

I was talking with a couple of kids in class today, both are huge democrats, they were saying that we spend way too much on military. I asked them to look at what they've done for us, they said yeah right look at 9/11 a lot of good they've done for us. I was starting to "warm up" a bit and told them that they are here and safe and able to do what they want, what is wrong with that? They gave me some bogus hype and they said that soldiers are all a bunch of burnouts anyway I flew off the handle now. I called them a bunch of arrogant jerks who are too lazy and too afraid to stand up to anything that poses a threat. The whole world is not just a big happy family, get used to it and never NEVER put down our people who protect and serve us. They shut up pretty darn quick.

It is the soldier, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag."

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings, which thinks that nothing is worth war, is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing, which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than him." -- John Stewart Mill (1806-1873)

This was posted before:

A teen-age girl was about to finish her first year of college. She considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, while her father was a staunch conservative Republican. One day she was challenging her father on his beliefs and his opposition to programs like welfare.

He stopped her and asked her how she was doing in school.

She answered that she had a 4.0 GPA but it was really tough. She had to study all the time, never had time to go out and party and often went sleepless because of all the studying. She didn't have time for a boyfriend and didn't really have many college friends because of her focus on succeeding in her studies.

He then asked how her friend Mary, who was attending the same college, was doing. She replied that Mary was barely getting by. She had a 2.0 GPA, never studied, but was very popular on campus and went to parties all the time. She often wouldn't show up for classes because she was hung over.

He then asked his daughter why she didn't go to the dean's office and ask why she couldn't take 1.0 off her 4.0 and give it to her friend who only had a 2.0. That way they would both have a 3.0 GPA. The daughter fired back and said, "That wouldn't be fair, I worked really hard for mine and my friend has done nothing."

The father smiled and said, "Welcome to the Republican Party."

Crimedog,

You can tell those jerks that if they want a bad case of whoop-a**, have that conversation with my brother-in-law that's in Iraq.

He left his family and electrical contracting business and volunteered to go! He didn't really care about WMD, but he is a history buff and could see the direction Iraq was headed. He feels, as many other intelligent people do, that if Iraq is returned to political freedom, it will have a positive effect on the entire Middle East.

I have to applaud the patriotism of you folks.

The military in our country is in shambles (IMHO) with those same weak arguments as to not try to fix it. Both of my close friends in High School went through the military here and the shortcuts taken due to lack of funding is just maddening.

Everybody seems to think it happens to everybody but them and its not their fault.

Lil Dog, if you'd just get those Liberals out of Ottawa, you'd be half way there to fixin' things.
