Some people just won't listen !

A CTD owner went to the Cars forum at clarkhoward.com message boards saying an '04 CTD they bought 6 months earlier started acting up . They took it to a mechanic and he told them the code told him the truck had been water damaged and would never be reliable . He convinced them the truck had been underwater although there is no evidence of this . I referred the poster to come here several days ago . Maybe someone will take pity on her and go over to clarkhoward.com and help her out . The mechanic quoted $9,000 , evidently to eplace the engine . BTW she wanted to know if anybody want to buy an '04 (think it's a dually ) with 46,000 miles cheap . Might be a deal .

Now thats funny!

If the truck had been underwater it would have a salvage title, right?
Too many "mechanics" that don't know a lift pump from an IP around. I hope she at least gets a second opinion.

Not necessarily. After drying out from a flood the owner could drive it, but have unsolvable intermittant problems because of corroded electrics. Then he would just trade it off. When I was shopping for my truck I found one on Ebay in Texas. I asked the used truck dealer to certify it had never been in a flood, the auction ended abruptly and I never heard from him. I thought it curious.

Anyway, I have always cautioned shoppers on this forum to beware of good deals in states which have frequent floods, such as Texas.

That's interesting but how do you explain the " water damage " code the mechanic came up with . Apparently these people owned the truck for 6 months before having problems . She also said her husband is a duck hunter . I wonder where vhe has had the truck . And see ? She still hasn't come to the best place for advice . She deserves to be told to trade it for a Powerstroke .

Texas? Frequent floods? I've lived in Texas for 44 years, 7 months, and have not seen a flood yet.

But as usual it works sometimes. I've been through 10-12+ in 40 years.

I apologize for badmouthing the Republic of Texas. I meant to refer to the State of Houston. Any Houston residents here? Tell us about your spring and fall floods. Didn't it flood around Corpus Christi in the fall also? And how do you explain the moss between the toes of some Galveston people?

all the water damaged cars/trucks are coming over from katrina flood areas.

I'd give her $4500 for it.

Before or after she pays that mechanic $9,000 to replace the engine ?

With that math she can pay me 4500 to take it off her hands, and I'll replace the engine myself! On second though, I'm in a good mood so let's call it an even 4k.
