Re:Select your branch of service wisely
All I can say is the service people are awsome. The Coast Guard that are patrolling off the Coasts of Alaska and in Valdez are doing a great job. The Army at Wain Wright, and Fort Rich who are doing winter war games in sub-zero weather are tougher than nail. The Air Force and Navy that are patrolling our sky's and sea's are doing one hell of a job. I do not know what is going to happen next but I do know the military will be really. They are locked, loaded, and the safety is off all they need is a target....Ben you have a long distant call please pick up the phone.

That's great! As an ex-Air Forcer, I can appreciate the humor. I flew a BFD-5 (Big Frickin' Desk, 5 drawers) while serving.

I think the list missed one difference though.

Ask the Marines to secure a building and they'll take a squad of highly trained comandos through the top floor window. They will go room to room sweeping out the bad guys.

Ask the Army to secure a building and they will call in hours of artillery fire on the building before combing through the rubble.

Ask the Navy to secure a building and they will insure that all lights are off, all window and doors are locked and have a sailor perform 'fire watch' all night.

Ask the Air Force to secure a building and they will take out a 5 year lease with an option to buy. ;D

Tim Way
Albuquerque, NM

There you go. Had to close down a radar site way back when. I never understood why we had to strip out our stuff, paint the walls and ceiling, buff the floor, spiffy the place all up, lock the doors and walk away. Heck, we didn't take that good of care of it when we occupied it. BTW, that site got turned over to the Forestry Service. Came with 25 2 and 3 bedroom homes with attached garages in the housing area. Trouble was it was 8 miles up a mountain road with (I counted them) 181 switchbacks. Honest. Best excuse I had to get my first 4 x 4 ('74 K5 Chevy Blazer). Well, it became GSA's problem. Another waste of money.

Hey Shortround, you are right and thanks! I have several Coast Guard friends who served in Vietnam on 82ft patrol boats and small river boats. My dad was on a CG destroyer escort in WW2 and chased German subs all over the Atlantic until he was torpedoed in the Med. The CG's only Medal Of Honor winner was killed rescuing General Chesty Puller's Marines on Guadalcanal. And the list go on...........
