It took me a long time (about 4 years) to get my wife to not open the door when she would get to it first. She usually will let me now. She always liked it and never got offended by it. She just didn't think about letting me open it. I guess ut just wasn't a practice in her life before that.

I don't recall my parents doing that as I grew up, but until I was about 7 everyone was Mr. or Mrs. There is a lot of general respect that is missing in todays world. Makes you feel like a lot of it just isn't worth it, but I can't let other ignorance affect my behavior. Just not my way.

I agree the removal of the hat is probably more to do with the area of the country and the influence of the "cowboy ways". I have to say I'm guilty of not removing my hatbut I can change that. As far as Begle1's post, ??????????I'm starting to understand why he was MIA for soo long.

How did you get her to stop? That still drives me crazy and I've been with my gf for almost 2 years...She just can't stand in front of a door without opening it...maybe I need some sort of shock collar.....

Indepedent women everywhere THANK you!

Keep doing it, and YES! TOP has it right- respect for yourself gives confidence to your actions.......

Got a gal that likes to be independent and do for herself? COMMUNICATE quietly that You would like to do things for her to be someone she can trust in you. (or some other line of hooey kidding)

took me 15 YEARS to not compete with my husband (think of the ANNIE Oakley song C';mon GEICO sing it with me!!!)

Anything you can do, I can do BETTER! I can do anything better than YOU!

Texas is tops for making a gal feel respected. IMagine my horror when I overheard my son on the phone address his college dean by her first name.
I can tell you that it WON'T happen again.... please keep opening doors (I do for older folks) cause what society sees may take hold.

as far as BEGLE! that boy needs some serious silent pontification or thorazine......either choice. My hat is off to you fellas!!!!

My wife still forgets to "let" me be a gentleman from time to time. I have to remind her to get her "pea-pickers" off the door. She's very independent.

On doors, my wife will walk up to the door in a way that its more convienent for me to grab the door than her.
When we go out to eat, even if she is paying, she will slip me the money before going in so I am the gentleman and pay.
Occationally, she will slip up and try to order for me, because we discuss what sounds good.

My parents raised me to open the door, pull out the seat, hold the ladies coat, all the good stuff. Hasn't helped me though*scratches head*... I still don't have a girl, which is good for now haha. I can't stand seein guys disrespecting other women. That is one thing that fires me up!
