Removing Window Tinting

Does any one here know the best way to remove window tinting on a car. I am looking at buying one but it has the mirror finish window tint and that just has to go.

Its not that bad at all. Just roll the window down about half way and try to start peelin it up with your finger nail or a razor blade. U should be able to get it all off in one piece if u go slow with it. Are u planning on getting the windows retinted? If so most tint shops dont charge much to peel old tint off.

its kind of hard on your thumbs when you push alot. ive done it a time or two. like teddy bear posted a razor blade and some windex works good. it is messy but it helps. if you get new tint put on dont use windex then because it has ammonia in it. you dont want to use it on the tint, its hard on the film. ive had about 20 vehicles tinted and I have stripped a bunch of them. if you were local I would help you do it

A hair dryer or a heat gun will soften the glue enough to make peeling it off a little easier and without leaving a heavy layer of glue behind on the window, just watch the heat setting, low to med is usually more than enough.

Straight amonia in a spray bottle and a razor blade work even better. Did this method twice.

I usually make a duct tape 'holdster' for the razor blade method, it helps keep a grip on the blade and provides a margin of safety. Don't ask me how I know this!

its as simple as using a razor blade to get it started at the top corner...rip the tint off, which will leave the glue. then mix up some soapy water in a spray bottle and use the blade to get the glue off. most tint shops around here charge an arm and a leg to strip tint because its wasting time they could be tinting another car.

OK Used to do this a few years ago...

Best way.... Go and buy one of those super thin plastic painting tarp.. (it is as thin as food wrap or thinner) they are like 99 cents.

Spray the window with some soapy water and place the thin plastic over the window tint and let it all sit in the sun for a 1/2 hour to an hour.. This causes the window wo sweat between the tint and glass.. then just graba corner and pull it should come off with 90% of the adheasive.. then soapy water and a razor blade will clean up the residue...

WD-40 will dissolve the glue that's left after you pull the film off.
