Jim,

Quite scenic where you live. nice greenery, fueling stations with the mountains behind. didn't realize it was so nice there.

Where did the rear axle go out of that runaway ford ?

Too High

A few pics of the first seaplane I've ever worked on. If it was actually on a lake while I worked on it I'd be minus two screwdrivers, one wrench and a few small parts as they would be under water I had to build a deck across the floats just to work on it. Kinda fun though

Are you going to replace that flat-opposed 6 with a 5.9 Cummins inline 6?

That is very true but I expect you will have to add a lot of lead around the tail to get the balance correct

Move the engine midship with the propeller shaft under your seat and inbetween your legs like the P-39 Airacobra.
Low speed prop or a gearbox and a feathering prop.
If Howard got the Spruce Goose to fly, this seaplane should be a piece of cake.

Could you even get a Cummins certified for aero use?

Aircraft owners (Most) are way too cheap or they put the dollars in the wrong place. They will pay 10 grand for a nice new interior or new avionics yet scream bloody murder when told they need engine or landing gear work Go figure. Take the 185 pictured for example, the paint is perfect and the interior is nice also. He's got every bell and whistle imaginable. When I uncowled the IMPORTANT part I have rarely seen such a turd. The amount of zip ties and silicone everywhere was funny not to mention the oil leaks and loose magneto. Must have taken him an hour to wipe the oil off the thing when he landed.
