Railroad Conductor/Engineer ????
Anyway, I always liked the diesel freight trains over any other. The three diesels that come in MSTS are the GP38, SD-40, and the Dash-9. The GP38 did not have the alerter (at least in the sim), and quickly saw how it can keep you awake as it goes off at random times in the Dash-9 and SD-40.
It's always been a job that I've considered, and may pursue after I retire from the military.
I have a few questions about working for a RR if I may.
What kind of pay do they make? Start....average...and senior employees? How long does it take to max out on the pay scales?
Can you give a brief description of the pension and how it works/calculated?
Do they have age restrictions on being hired on?
What are the qualifications?
Thanks for whatever info you can or are willing to provide from somebody who works there.

Actually, I found most of the answers here....since I posted my last post. I didn't see an upper age restriction mentioned. Does anybody know if there is one?

I worked on a section when i was younger. Basically a track maint. crew, had about 120 miles of track to patrol and repair. Till this day i still say it was the best job i ever had, hard work but i loved it. My brother in law is on the eng.'s he enjoys it. Yes odd hours, but for him it is mostly scheduled as in tommorrow night at 10:00 we depart and you get back home in 3 days. It usually is a decent pay, odd hours, but yes a good job. Yes you gotta start at the bottom no diff than any other job. Good luck.
Well, I checked the UP site today and my application was no longer in the approved stage and was changed to Thank You for applying. Said there weren't any more openings, but I applied for 2 more jobs on the BNSF site so I will see how that goes.
I was banned per my own request for speaking the name Pelosi

I haven't noticed this year, but the last couple years, NS and CSX were doing a lot of recruiting around here with adds in the paper, a little CN as well. I here CN treats their employees the best of the 3. Don't know for sure, just hear-say.
2 UP crew lost their lives yesterday in L.A in a collision with a Metrolink commuter train.
Over 20 dead so far....

We just had a terrible train wreck here in SoCal, yesterday, A Metrolink train with 225 passengers aboard just slammed into a Freight train Head on shoving the engine through the first car.
Metrolink officials said the Engineer ran his RED light and I heard today just moments before he was TEXTING someone.
I heard a lot of concern first because of the date it happened on.
They did recover the Voice and Data recorders out of the Mertolink engine so that should give some information. I hear it was recording video.
