my Dad let my borrow his lawn implements, and he has chunks of railroad trackon there to push the plugger into the ground, but only has them bolted on one side.

how hard would it be to drill a hole thru the base on the other side & secure it?

i don't have a welder, just drill bits and cheap drill bits at that

 

.50 BMG should do the trick

 

tryed .50 bmg at 200 yrd. didnt work one round stuck in web rest bounced off..

 

So off topic, what other uses are there for rail road tracks?? There are a couple next to a short section of dismantled track, Thinking I might need them for something but duuno, Also how much does one of those things weigh. Think its about 12' long.

 

Acetylene torch will blow a hole through the rail. That's how I did it.

Is there already holes drillied in the track? I think you can pretty much forget about drilling it. I would think welding would be the only option.

They make great portable anvils in 12" lengths.

 

Any welding shops around locally? Shouldn't be expensive for them to just blow a couple holes in it with a torch. If you don't have a shop or a buddy with a torch, it's going to take a small fortune in drill bits to get through that stuff.

 

I use RR track to weigh down my disc and my harrow, but i got a couple big "U" bolts to attach them, 'cause Idont have a torch or a drill that will go thru it....

 

Look on the side of the railway track and it should shows some numbers.

The stuff I use for strongman events had 3/100 on the side...or is it 100/3? Anyway, that means the track weighs 100 pound per every 3 feet. I think theres 80 or 85/3 and maybe some bigger stuff too.

Torch is best for cutting or putting holes in it. I wonder what lind of a plasma cutter I would need to put holes in track?

RR tracks make good pasture drags to knock down ant hills, and break up cow patties.

 

there is just one round better than what i tryed. price at a gun show several years ago was 23 bucks apiece. didnt buy it if i had i wouldnt have shot it. dont know why it was so expensive.

 

The weight depends on the rail. If I'm not mistaken, most mainline rail is 100 pound rail....meaning 100 pounds per foot. Pretty heavy.

Edit: After reading Scotty's post maybe it's 100 pounds per 3 feet.

 

Try using UNI-BITS you can pick them up at a local hardware store for about 14- 20$ for one, we use them to drill through 2-3inch iron works great..
