Programmable thermostat?

Just got our gas bill of $220 for a small 2 bedroom apt here in NJ for last month.

Does anyone know what all is involved in hooking up something like this.

It sounds like it is just 2 wires? The landlord will probably be fine with it since it could be considered an improvement...

I am hoping that by programming this thing we can get that bill down. We have basically just been leaving it around 66 or 68. I don't have the consistency to remember to turn it down every day at X o'clock and turn it back up at some other time before the missus gets home and if they only cost $30 I imagine it will pay for itself in the first month... With this I will probably shut off the heat from 8PM until 3PM and then have it go down a couple degrees right before bed too.

It could be anywhere from 2 to 5 wires depending on the type of furnace you have. Honeywell is a great brand but there are cheaper ones out there that work well. The one that I installed on my furnace this year is a rite-temp ( sold at home depot). It's mercury free, is already preprogrammed and only cost about $35. It also works with 2-5 wire systems and is easy to install. It also lets you have separate programming for weekends etc. The one that I have is model 8022c. Works just as well as any honeywell I've ever installed.

Installation is easy, the programing on the other hand will take some reading and trial and error to figure out. At least thats my expirence with mine.

thermop will help, also check the cracks around the windows, they have a clay like rope caulk that goes on easy and comes off in the spring with no ills to the paint, also handy are the shrink install plastic window insulaion kits, combined with the rope caulk will cut out the drafts, then ya need a draft dodger for the door, tube of fabric full of sand placed on the floor inside the door..... might save a few bux, its winter, dress like it inside the apartment? good sweatshirt never killed anyone.

WOW is that expensive to heat!!! My gas bill for a 1300+ sq ft house with a gas furnace (mid efficiency) and gas hot water also, is less than $70 Canadian. Our temps have been about an average of 32f with three people living here and one is a teenage person who gets dirty quick as he showers lots!!! Time to stop complaining about my gas bill!!!!
