wife freezing in church? digital programmable thermostats.

maybe you guys have done this already,
but our church was ALWAYS freezing or too hot.

someone had to come in early to turn down the AC, usually was running late, and just put it on 60 or so to cool it down quick. or they got there as service started, it was ~82 in there, and as service went on, it got down to 60's

i finally put in the digital programmable, and set them a half hour before services started,
and now it's MUCH better.

the women can plan what to wear, and have one sweater if they need it (not blankets) and men can be comfortable in a suit, no matter how early they get there to fellowship.

especially for the older folks, just makes it bearable to have a constant temperature every service.

hth?

Usualy setting the stat much lower does not make it cool faster just lowers the point when it stops. It helps with the multistage units, but then it has to be brought back when aproaching normal set point. Programable is definitely the way to go. There are some great units out there now. Touch screen and all. Avoid battery powered ones, the batteries always die at the worst time.

I have a couple that are "battery powered" but they run off line power unless there is a power outage, and then the batteries just hold the settings. they are touch screen, programable, LOCKABLE so that only authorized people can change the temps and settings. they go between heat and air conditioners as needed (great in ohio where weather can require both in the same day).... very nice, but also spendy.... worth it for a place that has lots of people that like to mess with things....

It's amazing to me how many people don't know how to use a thermostat. I have a friend who thinks knocking the temp down to 60 will make the unit run harder. Even after removing the cover and showing him the mercury switch that only provides on/off.

We cured that problem by..... Not going to church.

I'm sorry.... I couldn't help myself.

Before I retired from the USAF, I had the detail of being a facility manager in the HQ building.

The commanders' secretary was always complaining about being too hot or cold. I let her see me mounting a "special" digital thermostat in her office. Not one complaint after that.

Think I should have hooked it up to anything???
