Pontiac G8, new hotness?

V8, 4 door, RWD, 6spd !!!

CHICAGO — Pontiac rolled out a showcar version of the new 2008 Pontiac G8, noting that it is "representative of the production GT model" that will hit showrooms early next year. The GM brand also released information about the G8 — which is poised to become the new Pontiac flagship sedan — including the fact that it will be built in Adelaide, Australia.

I have got to say I am loving this car. As much as I like the Charger/300C SRT-8 you can't get 6 speed! I will be very interested to see how this works out for GM. You can already get the 6.0 GTO with low miles in the mid 20K range used so I am hoping a G8 can be had for as much when they hit the used market. I can't believe I like a Pontiac but I just have to remind myself it is really a Holden Commodore.......

I love the new Challenger too and if I was to go two doors I would buy it in a heart beat. I understand the BMW analogy but the closest thing in performance would be an M3 or M5. I have priced out 2nd gen M5s and one can be had for the high 30s low 40s which would be very tempting as well. The M5 blacked out reminds me of a stealth bomber.....

Since I'm just a little biased towards MOPAR, I'm with Ed.

Keisler Engineering just came out with a 6spd kit for the 300C/Charger/Magnum. Works with both the 5.7L and 6.1L Hemis.

Im just waiting to blow all 4 doors off that G8 with our Magnum SRT-8. We are already faster than their hotrod "GTO", Im not expecting much out of their 4 door version.

I saw the Challenger at our local auto show a couple of weeks ago. Sigh - looks like I'm going to have to start saving my pennies, and nickels, and dimes, and quarters....

I think it's even better looking in person. The photos don't do it justice. I just hope it handles halfway decent.

Most of the newer GTOs around here are running 12.80s in pure stock trim with drag radials. They are hard to hook on regular tires. With a tune, exhaust and a few other mods they are running low, low 12s. The G8 looks interesting, I've owned 3 new Pontiacs and had good luck with all of them. I wasn't impressed with the Chargers at all. My 96 old school Impala SS ran 14.3 with an Ed Wright tune and a 160 thermostat dragging 4389 pounds with a 3.08 gear and was only rated at 260hp. If they would have rated that hemi at around 300hp instead of the ridiculus 345 that it doesn't have it wouldn't have looked near as silly. I do like the new Challenger. Hopefully it will run better than their other vehicles. The 6.1 425 engine should run mid 12s in the Challenger in stock form.
