Old Massey Ferguson Price...?
Old Massey Ferguson Price...?
I have a 1962 model MF 35, agricultural, diesel that is not running. A guy is suppose to call today about buying it, and I have no idea how much to ask for it.
I think it has a blown head gasket. I have the top off of it, but can't get the head off. It's not real purdy, but the tires are decent and the trans and PTO, etc all work great.
Any idea?

Maybe this'll help, http://www.antiquetractors.com/Resea.../valuepage.htm basically, like anything else, it's worth whatever you can sell it for.
Finally, something I know about

A MF35, not running should bring between $2-2500. Running would push it up over $3K. Sorry, but a 35 hp tractor that's 40 years old isn't worth a whole lot!
On a brighter note...if the guy needs the tractor to mow, or hobby farm...ask $3500 and see what he wants to do
Those little tractors to people like that (kinda like Ford owners...they think it's exactly what they need, even though they don't know what they're doing
) sell really well!
Make any sense?
Chris

Mf 35
we had one back on the ranch, it was my rake tractor. we sold it for $4100 at our farm auction 6 years ago. it was a good lil tractor. i wouldnt take any thing less than $2200, maybe $2000. you can part it out for at least that much. good luck.

There are several factors to figure here.
You say it is not running, you think it is a head gasket. Will it run and just spew oil or water or not run at all? Those Perkins diesels can be expensive to rebuild, they are good engines though.
You say it is not purdy. Is the sheet metal worth repairing or will it need new metal?
You also state the guy does tractors for a hobby. He is going to want it REAL CHEAP. He has to make his money.
Someone to repair and sell the tractor is probably gonna want to give you a grand for it. The tractor is probably worth $1500 to $2000 not knowing for sure what is wrong with the motor.
In good running condition and sheet metal ify would bring about $4000 down here in GA.

* The engine would turn over, but not start. Not even with a gas rag or pulling it.
* The sheet metal, hood, fenders, etc need to be painted and decaled, but have very few dents.
* The tranny, PTO, High/Low drive and the "ag switch/lever" all work.
I figure if I can get a grand for it, it will at least be out of my way and I can use the $$ for another one or a downpayment on a new one. I really need one with a front loader. Or.....something else for my truck.

Ebay would not be a bad idea, but I've never delt with them before. I guess I could advertise in the local paper before I let it go.
twin to your massey
I've got its twin brother in N central Ohio, with good paint & sheet metal and 70% rubber, that leaks fuel around the injection pump & loses prime some how, (drips around a couple injector lines) It starts with a little shot of ether to get it going, then runs great....That I'd take $2200 for it today. maybe we can make the guys here a package deal !!
