Old Ford Tractor question

I have a 1955 600 series Ford tractor with a couple of chipped teeth on the large second gear in the trans (pulled the topped off and seen it)
I have put a clutch in this tractor before, but never have separated the trans from the differential or internal trans. repairs.

Any pointers to doing it? Any upgrades or things to look out for while I am in there?

Never got that deep into one myself but if I were to try, I'd get a manual first.
You might try http://www.ytmag.com/store/manuals/fordman1.htm. They seem to carry many items for old tractors.

some used to have shims on the center shaft for increased torque on contact gearing. they are pretty cut and dry though, heavy seperation though, think big pry bar and little sledge taps though, be nice to casting.

marine grease works better on old rigs.

good luck!
