Yup, I know em all. I worked there remember. There is a real nice stretch of gravel road that not too many know about that follows tight to the tracks w of McBain. An old freighthouse on the tracks still. I know some nooks and crannies west of Cadillac, in the hills too

Fronty, trex is ~okay, but not for the price or use you'd like. four inches gives you more than the required 2 and 1/4 for ventilation. how is cedar or hemlock in your area? no worries then, love water, rot and bug resistent.
problem would be the accumulation of debris underneath. holds water, etc.
is the concern. suggestion may be open grate tile, sand, then overlay of wood. drainage plus filling material to keep out debris. figure three bucks a sq ft total cost. my humble opinion.....

There are several synthetic sheet fabrics out now that you can lay down first, then put down the deck. Even 30# felt would work keeping your wood off the concrete. That is done on homes built on slabs all the time - - put down a strip of 30# felt, then the bottom plate is PT.
If you have room, marine treated (30 year life, not the normal treated) furring strips could be anchored to the concrete every 12 - 16" and the wood deck attached to them. That would add about 5/8" to the thickness. Whatever you do, at least add the barrier such as felt.

Debris could be an issue, because I want my deck to run parallel to the way water flows off my patio.
I could lay the furring strips along by the wall of the house then tie a couple board together with a gap under the decking boards for water and debris to run off...
I dont know what I wanna do, the concrete of the patio is hot in the summer and is rough to walk on, its kinda like the surface has been washed off or erroded away. its not broken or cracked other than where it meets the creek brick wall going into the yard.

Some builders also use strips of 90# roll roofing - - heavier. There are also some new vinyl rolls that are being used. If you have enough room to use something like a furring under the deck at say 12"oc, I would use the 30# strips. When protected like that, it will last a long time.
Good to hear from ya travellin' man! FLorida- no escape from the heat.hope its AC all the way...
only hiccup with roofing paper (ice dam is stronger) is that the wind blows, dust settles, stuff gets ground up on deck from normal wear-anyways- you get fine dirt on the paper which gets sun and rain and starts to grow things.
we built a 'clean out' or a drop down panel for a porch that covered an old driveway. it was higher than your situation by eight inches. worked nice once a year to hose out accumulation and was held by magnetic closures like marine cabinets would have.
build the surface and height you want, just leave a dummy facia board to remove or fold down uphill of the clean out area deposit site.
removed 10 feet shoreline of cattails, very thoroughly entrenched. one tractor load and one tired hubby in an hour of work. good enough pace when it is over 90 degrees. needed harley part, went and got it (100 mile roundtrip or so) storm blew in on the ride back making garbage cans go horizontal. will be back in the pond getting the nautical bouy out AGAIN from earlier this morning. how can 75 pounds get blown over 20 feet ? sheesh!
wish me luck , got to go be political tonight

sitting in memphis having my BBQ pork nachos and sam adams...
surprisingly, no one at the blue note cafe recognized me...
I would rather not have things growing thru my deck, but being cement, and not very steep, I doubt anything will stop it...
