Not as quick as a Charger but harder to spot

I saw one of these pull a car over Saturday at the 85 mm on I-64 and started asking Indiana drivers about them . I was told they were assigned to troopers with a reputation for writing the most tickets . I-64 Eastbound is closed and being rebuilt from the 92 mm to the 105 mm . They shifted traffic to the Westbound side , 1 lane in each direction . Flashing signs indicate a 45 m.p.h. speed limit . Be careful .

If I remember right I've seen them used in South Carolina & Georga as chase cars working with the radar units

The absolute last thing cops need are sports cars, marked or unmarked. In addition, IMO, cops doing traffic enforcement should be using marked cars 100% of the time.

CHP has been using Camaros for a number of years (the 1998-2002 models), all white with a low-profile lightbar. Florida has used the older Fox-body Mustangs for years too.

As we all know, traffic enforcement has nothing to do with "safety" and everything to do with revenue generation. I absolutely DESPISE people who would willingly take on a job that is nothing more than legalized extortion... they have been brainwashed into believing they're actually doing good.

If I were to post my true opinion of cops here, I would probably be banned.

Rob,

On the flip side of your view, if you don't break the law, who care what kind of car they drive.

Yeah I've seen that too. I even heard that a number of years ago, I think it was CT or VT, were using SUBARUS.

This is where it's good to be a car guy and to be able to spot a "stock" looking vehicle that just doesn't look right. There will always be something that isn't quite right... that will give it away.

It could be something really stupid and simple like a pillar spotlight, but police departments are getting smarter.

Other giveaways are the emergency lights mounted in the back window... or different-than-stock tires (square-shoulder types, like the Goodyear Eagles many police cars use). The license plate is a good one too, so you should try to notice it from a distance. But it depends more on what state you're in... like, California has the "EX" plates, but lately they have switched to them saying "Exempt" along the bottom and using a string of numbers on the plate, so they're harder to spot. BUT, the string of numbers is still different than their regular xNNNxxx configuration, where 'x' is a number and 'N' is a letter.

Nevada... their regular plate configuration is either NNN xxx or xxx NNN (like many states)... police vehicles tend to use a 3-4 digit number. But, it's been ages since I've seen an unmarked NHP car so I don't remember if it used a "civilian" plate or a gov't plate.

There was a book I had years ago (but have since lost in one of many moves) called "How to Avoid Speeding Tickets -- The Fast Driver's Handbook." It was a GREAT book, had lots of common-sense tactics that were real eye-openers.

Here's a common sense tactic for ya...

Don't speed.

I have no sympathy for people who intentionally break the law and then whine about it when they get caught. I was recently on a jury for a municipal court where the defendant was caught going 68 in a 45. The guy admitted to speeding, but his "defense" was that the officer seemed angry when he pulled him over and he thought the cop pulled him over because he was in a bad mood. Guess who got to pay the full fine for his violation that day??

I didn't read "thou shalt not drive faster than a bunch of hypocrites tell you to drive" in the 10 commandments...

I break the rules constantly, and I don't complain when I get caught

Would there be any point to having speed limits if there wasn't enforcement?

There would be plenty of drivers going 90 or 100 MPH or more if nobody enforced speed limits. It absolutely is a safety issue when you end up with drivers going up to 45 MPH faster than some of the slowest drivers. There are more drivers going 55 or 60 MPH in 70 MPH zones with fuel prices as high as they are.

Its reasons like that I pay more insurance and I personally walk my kids across the road.....

I drive professionally every day to and from work sites and speeding would save me about 3 minutes on a 1 hour drive? Uh, I get paid by the hour, why speed?
Ever hit a deer at 70 mph?

CHP has SS Camaro's with the Aluminum 350ci. The lightbars look like a ski rack if you look closely. They used to run 5.0's.

Personally who cares? Don't break the law and you won't be a victim of extortion as you put it.

I got busted once speeding (my boss told me to) the cop wrote me a huge fine, and points off my license. I contested it in court. the cop showed up and brought in pictures, video, diagrams, a typed up speech. took him about 15 minutes to go through the entire thing because he thought I was going to say something stupid to get out the ticket. the judge looked at me and said "well, whats your side of the story". I said "sir, I think the officer has done the perfect job telling BOTH sides, I am just here to see if I can get the points reduced". the cop was slightly upset (try extremely) when the judge reduced the fine, and sent me on my way.

I speed, never more than 8 over (except for that time of course, and only on highways) and I dont whine when I get stopped. but I also know why they are on the roads, and I disagree with the statement of legalized extortion.

its almost like saying, you pay to play, right?

Assuming you were talking about me, does it make you feel better to call me a hypocrite when you know almost nothing about me?

1. My comments had nothing to do with anyone's religious beliefs (including mine) so I'm not sure why you felt compelled to respond as if they did.

2. If you're not one of the ones that whines and complains like a baby when they get caught for doing something that they KNEW was against the law then my comments weren't addressed to you.

In Reno the NHP has a Freightliner class 8 truck they use for traffic. I havent seen it personally, but there was a big article on it in our paper. The county sheriff has a few D-maxes. I have also seen Reno PD with a 02-ish maroon Chevy half ton with 20s. Super blacked out windows. Also has normal "xxx-NNN" plates.
