At $5/gallon, I can barely afford to fill my tank and I plod down the highway at a mere 55mph. Meanwhile the CHP, not even pursuing anyone, routinely fly past me in their high-output cruisers at 100mph. It's nice to see those that are funded by us hard-working taxpayers aren't affected by these high gas prices. Wish I had an infinite supply of money like the government does.

Last weekend I drove from Albuquerque to Roswell (2.5 hours of nothing, .5 hour of congested interstate) to Colorado Springs (5.5 hours of nothing, 1.5 hours of reasonably congested interstate) to Phoenix (9 hours of not much, but the roads are not suited for high speeds, 3 hours of interstate). I think that some roads, like the ones across the middle of New Mexico really shouldn't have speed limits. There were some stretches where I didn't see another car for 20 miuntes at a time, and the roads were wide and straight. I think that traveling those roads at 100 mph is safe during as long as you are confident in the vehicle and the tires (My wife's Accord is a good example, not my CTD). I don't advocate excessive speed on the congested interstates. I usually set the cruise +4 or +5 mph.

Yeah, right. Tell ya what, come ride with me for a week or so and you'll be able to see first hand how much of a safety issue it really is. In my county alone, we had more than 60 fatalities last year, most of them related to speed. Of course, you'll come up with some other lame excuse, but that's cool. Your opinion is yours.... as uneducated as it is.

I absolutely DESPISE people who would willingly take on a job that is nothing more than legalized extortion... they have been brainwashed into believing they're actually doing good.
Brainwashed? No... Although I have washed brains off the street before. I hope one day it's not yours. Sounds to me like you've been caught one too many times and think you're a better driver than everyone else. Of course, we have nothing else better to do than to bother you and take your money, right?

If I were to post my true opinion of cops here, I would probably be banned.

Wow ... I'm almost speechless. Almost ... Sorry buddy, I think the majority of the "we all" that you referred to actually DO feel that the police are there to help maintain safety on the road. Maybe you have watched too many episodes of Dukes of Hazzard where the legalized extortion you speak of happens ... I don't know. I think you are extremely misguided.

I have driven through at least 3/4 of the country at one time or another and you know what ??? I have NEVER been hassled by "the man" as long as I was obeying the established traffic laws ... NEVER. When I have sped and got caught ... I deserved it and took my licks like a man. Smart enough to learn my lesson too ... didn't need some book to tell me how to avoid doing the right thing . Maybe I'm brainwashed too, eh ?

The CHP out of Riverside, CA, has a couple of plain-jane white Camaro's, no light bar, just flip-down red-n-blue visor lights and red-n-blues in the back window on the driver's side. I was doing @75 mph, saw one in the rearview with the lights going and thought I was gonna be buying the donuts. Then- POW- he was past me like I was rolling on four flats. Niiiice... and at least it wasn't a Crown Vic (sorry, Hoss, free car or not, my Grammy rolls a cooler ride).

BTW the cops drive unmarked units for pretty much the same reasons cops run "solicitation" stings. If ya don't know the black Impala SS in the slow lane is Johnny Law, ya get busted for speeding in the name of public safety. And if ya don't know that the tart on the stroll is a cop, ya get pinched for a "solicitation for prostitution" ding.
In both instances, the lawmen are trying to curb a behavior that endangers the public safety and health.

Not that I've had any experience with either, being a law-abiding man. Honest.

I was thinkin if anyone who has been here long enough knows the administrator/owner, they might want to think twice before getting all over law enforcement. (release the K-9!)
