Non-diesel HEMI 5.7 Question

Driving yesterday and my CEL came on. I keyed for codes and it came up empty. I checked everything as far as fluids and all is OK. It doesn't run any different and I just had oil changed. Anyone have any ideas as to what it might be. And yes the key on/off trick works to deliver P-codes on this beast. I left gas cap loose once and it threw a code that told me so.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Gary

Only suggestion I can give is swing by auto zone or napa and have them read the codes. Or purchase a reaqder, I bit the bullet and its nice to have, don't use it that often, but its REALLY nice to have.

I'll try to get by an Autozone today and get them to pull the code. Thanks again for responding.

Well, I learned a new one today. I had codes checked and nothing showed on P codes thru obdII. Guy asked had I done a brake job lately and how I bled brakes. I told him I had replaced all 4 wheel pads, but did not break system open, but instead pressed pistons back in on calipers with c-clamp vise grips. Tech then ran a check on the ABS codes and found I had tripped a pressure switch. He told me the bleeding procedure and told me to try it and see if the CEL would go off. Just after I left him, while driving home it went off on its own and I have now driven 300 more miles with no CEL on.
Dang computers!!!!!!

I never got anthing from the ABS light except normal lighting up when I start truck up. I guess that my CEL must be something else entirely. The guy that ran it did not get anything when he initially ran the scan. i guess I'll keep driving it until it comes back on and then have someone else try again.
Thanks a ton for keeping up with this Cbrahs. I'll report any future glitches when/should they occur.

some generic scanners do not have the capability to dig deep into the ECM. if you get a light again, pull codes and PM them to me. Will send you the diag sheet for those codes to help ya out. drive it like ya stole it now! LOL

Thanks a ton Cbrahs. I'll keep an eye on it and PM you if I get anything. Heck I went to the deer lease this weekend and had to use 4wd to pull a couple of kids out of a mudhole. They were in an old chebby with 44's on it and it was buried up to the top of the hood. It took some serious tugging with a 5" tugem strap, but I got it out. I just laughed at them while they were checking out my totally stock, with mud/snow tires truck.

Thanks again!
