Well I filled my truck up Saturday morning, them let my friend drive it while I drove the ramp truck I just sold him, down to his house. Roads ranged from hilly interstate driving (70-75 mph), to many miles of twisty, hilly town roads at 30-40 mph. I topped off the tank at 239 miles, and it took 9.6 gallons, for a total of 24.9 MPG. Not bad for a 1996, 4x4, auto truck! I think my friend is easier on the throttle than I am...I like listening to the straight exhaust make its sound.

My stock 96 2WD auto has clocked 26 mpg before running 55-60 on country four-lane - don't think them over-valved trucks can get that unless they are idling on the trailer while a 12V pulls them along

I was grannying the truck that day, not in a hurry. It helps that I have 3.55s under it.

I can knock down 20-21 on my properly valved truck . Not to bad considering the size of the beast. Shoot, I'm sitting at 350 miles on a needles width below half a tank and I've got about half a dozen 70-110mph runs on it. I love my truck.

It probably foamed and shut off the pump before it was as full as before you started.

How do you guys get that kind of milage? I just calculated my milage over the last two years and got an average of 13 MPG with the best tank being 15.6 and the worst being 11.1. Most of the time it is running completely empty (85%) with some hauling of 6000 Lb. boat (15%).

MY 01.5 HO 6spd gets consistant 23-24 and i have gotten a best of 26.5 mpg, even with to many valves.

I know it was completely full because I always wait and let the foam settle, and fill it slowly when I get near the top of the tank. As for how it does so well, I can't answer that. It was running empty the whole time, and I have 3.54 gears. About 100 miles of the trip was interstate, but it was Vermont interstate with several good sized hills. No stop-and-go anywhere on the trip, but there were some curvy local roads.

I used to get around 26mpg with my father's truck, a '97 4x2 5-speed. Both of our trucks have standard cabs. Mine doesn't have the tailgate. I also have the star wheel cranked all the way, which I noticed seems to help get the truck moving easier without needing to give it as much throttle. I could be wrong though...it might be an illusion.

it moves easier because you are getting more fuel down low because the star wheel is cranked. when the star wheel is the opposite way you currently have it, YOU can give it wide open throttle but the AFC will hold back the fuel until boost comes up, and then give fuel proportionally to boost increase. its an illusion, less pedal doesnt necessarily equal less fuel. you use less pedal because you changed one of the many fueling parameters that allows you to get more fuel for a certain pedal position.

my 92 can pull 22mpg with PODs at 55-60mph. as long as im easy on it, mpg's stay up. but overall average of a few thousand miles (as a rough estimate) would be 16-17mpg because of city driving and letting the PODs live up to their name.

gotta love diesels...

I get about 18 mpg in the city and about 21 mpg on the highway. I think 22.7 mpg was about the best I've ever done in my truck (all highway and cruise set on 70 mph).

I know he didn't put fuel in because I was with him (and the truck) the whole time. I can see where it would get better with him...I drive with a tad more right foot, and he drove like an old lady. Hey, he was following behind a 4 cyl. Isuzu diesel powered Chevy ramp truck (same as an Isuzu NPR) with a 4x4 Toyota on the back. It did fine, but it definately didn't set any speed records.

my own personal best is 22 mpg on a trip to Austin Texas . I was going about 55-65

So far my best is 18mpg empty. That's because I keeping bombing it and can't keep my foot off the go pedal. Even still, that's not bad for no highway, always hauling *** around town type of driving.

I could get 20 plus on the hwy with 20@80 mph trip from Little Rock to home and a round trip from here to San Antonio and back got 23mpg@65mph.

This was all with 275's. I'm not sure I could do it today with these 100 hp injectors. I may change back or go for some of those 1.2 of Don's.
