Record MPG

What is highest mpg known to be had with 24valve? I'm currently at ~17.5mpg in the city. I was thinking about getting exhaust, intake, injectors, bigger turbo...Would I be able to reach ~20mpg or more in the city?

I would be tickled to get 17.5 in the city with my short box 2wd 12-valve auto. My 2001 I used to have would get 17.5-18 city and 21-23 highway at normal speeds, got just under 25 once driving right at 65. It was also a short box 2wd but had the 6-speed.

1995 Ram 2500 4x4 auto and I get 19 all the time running 80% town and have gotten 16 towing my 10,000 fiver. The last there times I have seen 16.6 towing and I think its because I have a heavy right foot lol. I did get 24 on a long trip,it was about half that empty and on the return trip There was 1,000 in the bed.

I'm thinking that would push you in the other direction. (but you'd enjoy the ride!)

I get 20 always in town or on highway. I pulled a load of cattle a few month back 60 miles one way on the highway in a 24 foot trailer running 65-70 and got 16 mpg! i was stoked

Interesting, I always thought that you could dip into mid 20's on highway and low 20's in city with upgrades. Free flowing exhaust, chip, injectors, etc.

Very best I've ever seen is 18.5 all highway. I haven't run a full tank thru pulling a trailer with my 98, but my 90& 92 got 10mpg with the pedal on the floor.

We run our 98 through the mountains on Hwy 33 across WV and averaged 18 with a bad trans..

If...........you can keep your foot out of it. The problem is that all those parts also make the seat-o-pants-o-meter peg the scale on fun to drive.

I don't beat on any of my cars. Once in a while I'll step on it but I don't do it much often.

That's cool, I don't either but since I have it I tend to want to use it. It take allot of restraint not to dent the floorboard some days.

Have no idea how you can get 16 towing like that, better keep that truck
I have two 12-valve trucks (auto and 5-speed) and neither one gets close to that towing my 20-foot 5-6K travel trailer traveling at 62-67mph. Both trucks do fine when empty but for whatever reason whenever I tow the MPG takes a dive, even driving conservatively and accelating rather gradually. I generally get 12-13 pulling my TT, up to 14. My '03 I had got 16-17 pulling the same trailer.

With the Lift and Tires I am lucky to see 16 mixed highway and city..

Havent driven it on a long enough trip to see real "highway" mileage but I woudl bet that it isnt much more than 17...

Towing my 7000# boat and trailer I get 12-13

I dont buy people saying 20-23 if they are running bigger tires and 4x4 trucks....just doesnt add up IMO....

5sp or 6sp 2wd on stock tires with a mild chip.....maybe 20-23 but even still its hard to do....almost everyone I know gets an HONEST 16-17 mpg which is very respectable in our trucks...most of the ford guys I know get 13-14 no matter what and I dont know enough Dmax guys to even ask....

just my observations..

Used to get just above 23mpg highway unloaded at 70mph, but THEN came LSD/ULSD and now it BARELY breaks 20mpg on the same trips.
I now average ~17-18mpg with combined in-town/highway (commuting) driving.
