Need Help Buying Motorcycle
Need Help Buying Motorcycle
Gotta get something more economical and the wife says GTG on the bike. Problem is I'd love to have a Harley but only have between $6k-$7k to spend. I can find some nice early 90's Fatboys for that price but I hear horid stories of leaking in those years. Anyhow, I can get a 2005-2008 model Yamaha Roadstar 1700cc for under my budget and they look good. Anyone have any input or better suggestions? I appreciate it.
Well good to hear you think Im gonna die on it Mark. I like the Roadstar, heard some good clips on utube. Check this one out, probably going to pull the trigger if the bank says "GO".

This is a good deal on a great bike. Buy it.
ALL my friends ride Harley's, (you should note that I belong to Fire and Iron M/C so I get the look and comments all the time.). While I like Harley's and almost pulled the trigger a couple different times I just could not justify getting rid of my paid for 04 Suzuki Intruder 1500LC. The funny thing about my bike is that ALL my friends are ALWAYS in my rear view mirror. The only bike that can keep up with me is the only other ricer in the herd, an 04 or 05 Yamaha Road star 1700. I jetted and piped it for my buddy and must say that thing is quick and sounds great.

The thing I hate about Jap V twins is they are for the most part shaft driven. In fact, I can't think of one that isn't. Don't like the dynamics of the ride, like while taking a curve and accelerating.
I don't have a HD, I ride an old KZ 1000 w/a chain drive. Tried the V twin route, but rode w/a pack of ricers that I was attempting to keep up with in the hills. You notice the difference right away.

I know this is unconventional thinking, but, if the object of this purchase is to save money on transportation. Pick up a somewhat older mid size Jap bike. Avoid all the popular big cruisers & sport bikes because the demand for them will run up your costs & decrease your savings.
A 750 -900 cc or so bike is plenty for a commuter bike. It will be a blast to ride in the city & have plenty of power on the freeway. Fuel economy will be better too.
Since most Americans are obsessed with bigger you should be able to pick one up for a very reasonable price . Maybe even avoiding payments all together.

Very true. I do it just cause I can, and it really really makes them mad.
