Need Computer Help Please

Last night I came home and booted up my laptop to check my e-mail when the yahoo page completed loading my spyware told me that it had found some adware something about zenos search. I shut everything open down and ran windows defender and it supposely took care of it. Now some of my porgrams will not start. So far I have found that IExplorer, file search, system restore, avast antivirius, and a few others. When you click on the icon the hour glass comes up but the program never does and it dosen't give you an error or any thing. Most of the stuff still works though. I started it safe mode and checked it with both spybot and windows defender neither one of them has found anything more. On the windows defender I did a full system scan that took over 2 hours and checked 511,000 files and it didn't find anything. When I boot up the computer and log in I get an error with the ctfmon.exe file. What do I need to do next. I figured that yall have helped so many others in the past that somone might be able to help me. Thank You.

Here is some info on ctfmon.exe: http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/files/ctfmon

It may be that the file has become corrupt and needs to be restored. You can extract the file from the cab file from office or re-install. Some other sites say the file is also associated with IE7 and you can try re-installing that.

Try the restore/go back feature of the operating system. You should be able to restore back a few days and take care of the problem.

I have already tried that it is one of the programs that is not working. It will let you get to the piont than you press next to restore, press next and it does nothing. I waited 15 min and nothing.

Sounds like its still infected with viruses... If you got another machine id hook that drive up as a secondary in it and scan it just like youre scanning a thumbdrive for viruses. After that, rerun the spyware programs then toss your windows cd in and perform a "repair". Typically you boot the cd, hit enter to install windows(not repair on this screen), accept license agreement, then hit R for repair or ESC to install fresh. Windows repair would have a decent chance at resolving the problems with windows. Your remaining apps youll need to resort to reinstalling.

If there are alot of apps not working, all things considered a fresh install may be quicker and less hassle if youre going to need to reinstall programs anyway.

They are fairly cheap. $10-20. USB to 2.5" ide, or USB to Sata (depending on how old your laptop is/what type of drive.

This adapter does regular desktop hdd, laptop hd, and sata hd to USB for under $15 delivered.

Always convenient to have one, just in case the computer cant boot and youd like to copy some quick files off before tossing it, formatting, attempting repair, etc.

Windows errors related to ctfmon.exe?

ctfmon.exe is a process belonging to Microsoft Office Suite. It activates the Alternative User Input Text Input Processor (TIP) and the
Microsoft Office XP Language Bar. This program is a non-essential system process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.

Note: ctfmon.execould also be a process which is registered as a trojan. This Trojan allows attackers to access your computer from remote locations, stealing passwords, Internet banking and personal data. This process is a security risk and should be removed from your system.

Determining whether ctfmon.exe is a virus or a legitimate Windows process depends on the directory location it executes or runs from.
We strongly recommend that you run a free registry scan to identify .ctfmon related errors.

Install ad-aware & reboot in safe mode. Keep in mind, if it does it in safe mode, going to have to reformat the hard drive. Do not back up any files to a disc, your going to have to lose all your data. If no errors pop up, proceed with a scan. Good luck!
