My youngest bought a baby hedgehog
What can anyone tell about these miniature porcupines? I've read some stuff on the internet but was wondering if ya'll have any experience. Right now we're trying to socialize it but its proving to be a little painful. Any suggestions on handling this thing? They say once they're tame they make great little pets...I'll believe it when I see it. Until then I'll keep my gloves handy.

He'll have to get a little bigger before we can make a meal out of him but until then I guess we'll have to figure out how to handle him. He kind of looks like an oppossum in the face with hampster feet and quills. He is actually cute and growing on me, but getting stabbed by 5000 quills kinda sucks.

Is it a European hedgehog? They make great pets, and are pretty calm and good natured. If you work with its nocturnal ways, you'll love the little beastie.
I had a raccoon as a pet for about 6 months. I couldn't handle the thing rambling around all night trying to pull the doors off all the cabinets and peeling the gaskets out of the refrigerator door. I gave her to a friend on night shift. They got to be best buddies and she went everywhere with him.

It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!
As a kid growing up in an area where hedgehog lived, we used to have hedgehogs around all the time and they do make fun pets. Of course you can't pet them like a dog or a cat, but they are still cool pets. That was a few lifetimes ago, so don't remember anything specific about them, other than the fact that they were easy to handle once they got used to me.

I don't have any pics of ours but he is an African pygmy...I think and is silver and white.

I had friends with them, and my sister had some, maybe still does.
They feed them dry catfood.
Handle them with gloves, sometimes they will get tame enough to not need the gloves.
They seem to like things tion their cage that they can crawl into and hide.
