Here's a beefsteak for comparison. Just a small one, they get as big as a softball.

Depending on where you live, morels can be found for a brief time in the spring. Here in SE Iowa, the season has just got underway with small grays being found. The big yellows will follow as the weather warms a bit more. They take some hunting to find and most people guard their 'spots' as well kept secretes.

My family cooks and eats, but some people do sell them. Price ranges widely depending on how good the spring weather is and how many come up.

Dredge in a little flour, salt, pepper and into a hot oil 'bath'. Brown on both sides. YUM!!! Spring time treat to go along with spring turkey hunting.

Man can't wait till the morels pop out here...We go out to 1-2 year old burn sites. We have literly loaded up a 4 wheeler waggon an 2 coolers on the bike before. On good years people come up here in droves for our shrooms, some in busses converted into mobile drying units.

I think this is the first one I found last fall. I haven't had time to go out yet this year.

I felt horrible the other day... I was mowing the yard and saw the pieces of the Morels when they came out the grass chute!

I'd never seen them in the place they were before, especially so close to the house.

We've seen them before beside our garage and down a fence row. Those made a good mess for a few people one night. Great stuff.

We can usually get trashbags full on the farm. They're like manna... they pop up over night and you better get them before they go.

Don't listen to him^^^^^. Morels are disgusting and need to be disposed of properly. If you see them in woods near you. PM me and I will come and dispose of them for you. Not everyone is licensed to perform this task, so please don't let anyone remove and dispose of them but me.

Yeah, or you can call me! My dad grew up in "The Morel Capital of The World," Muscoda, Wi. I think they should just be popping up here. The best places to look are under recently dead elm trees, and prickly ash trees. If you can find a fresh dead elm surrounded by prickly ash trees, you will hit the jackpot. You can't pick one of these things without getting cut up, but they are certainly worth it!

I like the calf brains better sired in butter. No joke about them ones in the cow poop when the cows our turned out on the forest they get hooked on them and make for a fun long running day too slow them down too move them.
