Hey you computer experts, I have a big problem I am hoping someone can help me with. We have computer repair techies down here, but many of them advertise as being experts but then experiement on the computers brought to them for repairs. I have been trying to fing someone to come to my house to see if they can fix my problem while I watch over their shoulder, but so far can't find anyone that seems to really know how to fix the problem. HEEEEELLLLP!
The problem started a few days ago when one morning my computer refused to start. It tried but then displayed a message that some files were corrupted and to try a rescue disc or reload Windows 2000. Also, the display looked fuzzy, sort of like it was started in safe mode and had the same sick green color.
I tried the rescue disc but that did nothing and the message changed to tell me to install the original Wndows 2000 disc and attempt a repair. Did that but the repair did not help either. Then I did a reinstallation which worked but I lost a bunch of programs. A pain, but one by one I have re-installed them.
The problem is my monitor. It is stuck on 16 colors and I only have two choices of size, 800 X 600 & 640 X 480. Also np matter what I try I cannot get rid of the sort of crosshatching on the screen. Everything is fuzzy and hard to read and when I click on anything the screen flickers a lot.
I am presuming that I need to reload the driver, but when I go to device management and click on monitot and general it tell me that the driver is not installed (code 28) Then when I click on "Driver" it tells me that a driver not required or loaded.
I did an internet search for a driver for my KDS VS-19 monitor and their appears to be one available. KDS want me to pay $5 for it. Free drivers are available but can't find one for Wndows 2000, only Win 95 & 98. Do I need a driver or the problem something else?
Any suggestions as to what the problem could be and what I can do about it?
Thanks for all help.

I would reseat my video card if you have one. Double check the connections. Then delete the monitor in control panel-system do a restart and let windows find the new hardware Check your PM there is a link to a free driver for you.
The driver should be built into windows 2000, that is why you are not finding a 2000 and up driver. Try starting the computer in safe mode and removing the driver completly from the device manager, then start up the computer again in regular mode.

Thanks for the answers. Tried starting in safe mode, removed the driver and restarted the computer normally. It told me it found new VGA hardware and when I tried to install the driver was instructed to go to add/remove hardware and try from there. Tried and still receive the message that the driver is missing, code 28. The stupid problems are unchanged! Grrrrrr!

Naah. I don't drink, but if I did why would I drink cervasa when all kinds of tequila is available at any store? Cheap too!
You didn't say if you reseated the video card.
Probably would be a good idea to reseat all cards while you're in there.
Minute vibrations from the fans and hard drives/floppy drives will loosen the cards over time,
or let small dust particles in there messing with the connection.
Just remove them and reseat them one at a time so you make sure you get them back into the same slots to avoid other potential problems.

I took the card out, dusted it off (not much dust) and then reinstalled it. Not much chance of these cards loosening as I have the good aluminum case with the spring clips to hold each card in place.
Stan,
I use Win2000 also. It sounds like you need to find a driver for your Video card not for the monitor like you mentioned earlier.
Since Win2000 is not fully plg and play it will sometimes install the WRONG driver from microsoft. Try to find one from Vendor they are usually available for download.

I tried downloading many different drivers as i could not find one to match my card. Actually, I can't find anything in my computer to match my card. However, everything is now working as it should. Today I tripped over a NVidea site that I had not seen before and downloaded a different program. It worked.
